Summary: Researches in pelagic community were included study of compsition of principal sistematic groups, their vertical and horizontal distribution in the middle Adriatic, and they mutual relations and impact on enviromental. The data of multiannual opservations phytoplankton and zooplankton in open middle Adriatic were published; the impact of eutrophication on copepods in Adriatic; progressive alterations in copepode community on eastern coastal Adriatic zone were founded; red tide was monitored in Kaštela bay; temporal and spatial distribution of heterotrophic bacteria in estuary of Krka river was monitored; the influence polar radiation, temperature, salinty and pH on survival of faecal coliforms in marine wather; temporal and spatial bacterial distributopn was monitored under the red tide condition in Kaštela bay; relations between bacterioplankton and phytoplanktonic species Goniaulax polyedra was studied in condition of the red tide; multiannual temporal series of heterotrophic bacteria density were analyzed in middle Adriatic; impact of eutrophycation and fluctuation of environmental factors on heterotrophic bacteria were monitored; effect of Phaeodactylum tricornutum on the growth Flavobacterium sp. in mixed culture and under dufferent light and temperature conditions was studied; distribution of faecal pollution indicator under different meteorological conditions was studied in Kaštela bay; bacterioplankton production in relation on phytoplankton production was dwtermined in middle Adriatic; temporal productions of zooplnkton and bacterioplnkton were studied in middle Adriatic too; the role of bacteria and heterotrophic nanoflagellates in pelagic carbon cycle was studied in Kaštela bay. Investigations in benthic community: composition and distribution of benthic biocoenoses and theirs aspect in coastal and islands zones of Adriatic was investigated; biocoenoses of National park "Kornati" was studied; data of severals year komparative studies on littoral bicoenoses of Kornati archipelago were performed; general reviews of benthic flora in shorter (Split, Makarska, Dubrovnik, Bokakotorska bay, Rogoznica cove) and biger regions (southern Adriatic) were investigated; impact of marine pollution on phytobenthic and zoobenthic settlemnts was studied in Spl;it, Makarska and Rogoznica regions; biological and ecological studies of Lithophaga lithophaga was performed on many locations in middle and southern Adriatic; new data of rarely found species Genocidaris maculata in Adriatic was presented; ecology and biogeography of gastropoda Prosobranchiata along eastern coast of Adriatic was studied. Some at results and data which were obtained in the frame of the investigations of this Project were published 30 papers. Two doctor thesis and one master degree thesis were resulted too.

Research goals: Adriatic Sea is dynamic ecosystem with changes happened in short and long-term time intervals. So, it is necessary to take care on investigations on long-term fluctuations of Adriatic abiotic and biotic components, as like on changes made by man activities. Until this problems are not quite enough investigated (on the basis of long-term measures of relevant parameters) we could not control Adriatic ecosistem. The aim of this project is to take a better knowledge on coastal channels between islands and open waters of middle Adriatic (to Italian teritorial waters). This area, as a part of dynamic integrity of Adriatic Sea, is of a particular significance in scientific (especially Jabuka pit and semiclosed coastal basins), and economically view (turism, sea traffic, spawning area of pelagic fishes). All this investigations will insure scientific basis for forecasts of possibilities to use natural resourches of Adriatic Sea, and plans (through the law) for more successfully protecting Adriatic Sea from pollutions and other man activities. In times of Adriatic orientation, it could be that all this results obtained through this project by multidisciplinary investigations, have some basis for development in researching sea as well as in main subjects, like economy and ecology, for Republic Croatia.
