Summary: Through a network of institutions and experts the Priority
ActionProgramme (PAP) being created within UNEP Mediteranean ActionPlan
(MAP) uses the knowledge and experience existing in theMediteranean
countries for launching immediate action inindividual countries of the
region towards the integratedplanning and menagement of the coastal
resources. As a result, PAP succeeded in establishing cooperation with a
number of UNagencies, and with abuot 50 international institutions. PAP
iscarring its activities through a network of more than 350Mediteranean
experts officially nominated by their respectivegoverments.

Summary: Mean residence time in the sea water is 20 days due to
particlesedimentation. The total residence time in the sea water of thebay
is 12 days due to particle sedimentation and water transportout of the bay.
As calculated by a mathematical model, at mass
mercury input of 3 kgt/day for 35 years, mercury mass depositedin the
sediment of the bay amounts to 5.9 t. This figure confirmsto the figure of
5.4 tons obtained by measurements.

Summary: The quantity of ascorbic acid need to meet all
vitaminrequirements of juvenile gilthead sea bream ( Sparus aurata,L)was
determined during the experiment as well as ascorbic acidlevels in the
brain, kidney, liver, gills and white muscles. Theanalyses of ascorbic acid
in different organs was performed bymodified dinitrophenylhydrazine method.
To meet all the vitaminrequirements and prevent diseases in juvenile
gilthead sea breamtheir food should contain minimum 500 mg vitamin C/kg.
