Summary: The researches on this projekt envolve treatments of the experimental animals (mainly fishes) with different heavy metal salts, compounds which contain diverse metals, and with other similar agenses. By use of different histological, histochemical methods and techniques for the quantitative analyses, we detect traces of metals in different vitaly signifficant organs. We specially study effects of low dosage of those metals which are dominant contaminants for the human environment and for the ecosystems.

Research goals: The aim of the study was to observe the intake of heavy metals in the animal tissues under the conditions of chronic intoxication with the low concentrations of metals within the limits of maximum allowable concentrations. Similar conditions are frequently encountered in natural ecosystems. The preliminary results indicate that the amounts of accumulated metals in the tissue are low and unsuitable for quantitative analytical analyses. For this reason the emphasis of future investigations will be laid on the determination of metals by histochemical methods. A. A larger number of histochemical methods for metal detection will be tested, with a view to determining their adventages and usefulness. B. The analysis will be focused on the pathological effects of accumulated metals in the tissue, with the emphasison the prolonged tissue exposure to low metal concentrations.
