Summary: This project make posible investigation of mosquitoes in all parts in Croatia. The research will be partly in field and partly in loboratory. All data will be under computer analysis. The goals: investigation of fauna of Croatia, dissemination and abundace of some species of mosquitoes, finding main breeding places in the areas wich has problem with mosquitoes, investigation of biotic and abiotic factors related to mosquitoes, establish the presence and vector path of some viruses, are very important and they are basis for successfull mosquito control and scientific fudament for math model for prognose of mosquito appearence.

Research goals: Goal of the research: inventarization of the mosquito species - setting the breeding places for every area - systematization of mosquito dissemination according to UTM system - analysis of biotic and abiotic factors favourable to mosquitoes - epidemiological analysis of some mosquito populations - to complete the research in order to successfully and qualitatively mosquito control. As mosquitoes are posible vectors and molestants contribution of this project can be predicted: a) biological (fauna, sistematics, ecology), b) epidemiological (deseases, vectors), c) economical (turism). Dailing with fauna of some area is a significant contribution to the science and this especially important for us because in Croatia we can hardly find any record of such kind. Besides malaria whose cycle is well known, in the mosquito family of Culicidae, there are species such as Aedes vexans whose vectors role in transmitting Tahyna virus to nearby countries was proven. Exactly that species is the main molestant in Croatia. There is a justified doubt that in the region of Drava basin exist very dangerous Dengue virus, as well. Some significant tourist areas became less attractive because of these little pests, while cattle in other places become so irritated that they tend to create spampedes. Prognosis of mosquito apearance must be based exclusivelly on good knowledge of mosquito biology and ecology and a good prognosis which would not disturbe the natural balance is a prerequisite for the mosquito control.
