Summary: Trieste-Pazin flysch basin of Istria is usually divided into Trieste and Pazin basins, separated by the Savudrija-Buzet anticline. Paleocurrent dispersal indicates on synsedimentary differentiation of this basin. The initial palaeotransport was towards NW, but the growth of the intrabasinal barrier caused a scatter of paleocurrents in the Buzet area, and a change in the dip direction of the Pazin basin axis. The Savudrija-Buzet anticline possibly represents this barrier. Paleocurrents in the southern part of the Pazin basin indicate on transport from a source on SE, probably from clastic shelf which is partly preserved on the Islands of Krk, Rab and Pag.

Summary: The oldest Early Eocene deposits on the Adriatic carbonate platform are the Kozina-type Lms. of brackish lagoons, overlain by the Foraminiferal Lms. of open shelf. Deposition of Eocene carbonates was punctuated by numerous emersions, caused by relative sea-level falls. Continued deepening lead to deposition of the Transitional Beds, which was also aborted by a sea-level fall. Finally, Flysch was deposited in a tectonically-created basin, its lower (marly) part was attributed to a highstand, whereas the upper (turbiditic) part was deposited during a lowstand.

Summary: Megabeds in the Split-Kaštela basin account for 1/4-1/3 of the basin fill. Paleotransports in environs of Split and Solin show notable differences as a result of isolation of Split and Solin sub-basins. Megabeds deposited from reflected flows indicate a complex bottom topography and their great thickness indicates deposition in a restricted basin. The olistostrome K-S originated by a catastrophic collapse of shelf margin and spread all over the extensional phase, and the oldest compressional phase.
    Keywords: Megabeds, Split-Kaštela basin, Clastics.

Summary: Deep exploration well Koraljka-1 in the central part of the Adriatic sea, revealed to us, from its deepest part, a very important results from the biostratigraphical point of view. The deposition contiunity from the Maastrichtian to the Palegene, documented with abundance of nannofossils and planktonic foraminifera, along with intercalations of shallow-water platform detritus are well described. The importance of these deposits is based on a fact that there is no on-shore equivalent of such deeper-water deposits in the Croatian part of the Outer Dinarides.

Summary: Since the late Cretaceous emersion, sedimentation on the Adriatic platform started diachronously above a basement of different ages. The age of transgression ranges from Paleocene to Eocene. Several Paleogene environments and facies are recognized, ranging from brackish lagoons characterized by laminites of the Kozina Fm., to open shelf where Foraminiferal Lms. have been deposited. Recognized emersions had different durations, and all contribute to stratigraphic incompleteness of the sections studied. They have governed a diversification of facies, and are attributed to local block tectonics and falls in sea-level.

Summary: Trieste and Pazin basins are divided by the Savudrija-Buzet anticline, and paleocurrent pattern in each is different. Transversal paleocurrents were significant in the Trieste basin, and probably represent the initial transport direction. Longitudinal flows have opposite directions in both basins, towards NW in the former and SE in the latter, but near Buzet paleocurrents are very scattered. In the Pazin basin paleocurrents were first oriented towards NW, but latter werechanged towards the SE, indicating change of the basin axis dip direction probably caused by the growth of the Savudrija-Buzet anticline.

Summary: In the area of Ravni Kotari to Skradin, the Paleogene sedimentation started with lagoonal facies known as the Liburnian Formation. Following the gradual deepening of the carbonate platform, sediments with a rich microfossil association appeared, i.e. the Foraminiferal Limestones. A transition to clastic sedimentation occured in the overlying flysch, with a higher content of planktonic foraminifera and nannofossils.

Summary: Sedimentation during the Eocene occurred in brackish shallow lagoons, and later in open marine setting where the Foraminiferal Limestones have been deposited. Numerous breaks of sedimentation characterize deposition of carbonates, and some of them have lasted for ca. 2-2,5 Ma. These have been caused by emersions in response to the relative sea-level falls. Progressive deepening lead to deposition of the Transitional Beds and finally thick Flysch Fm. Deepening and formation of the basin we interpret as caused by tectonical disintegration of the Adriatic carbonate platform.

Summary: Palaeogene clastics, previously interpreted as flysch are tangentially cross bedded. Most bed-sets are inclined towards the SW and only few have apparent reverse orientation. Bioturbation has different intensity. Body fauna in sandstones is very rare, and only occasionally occur resedimented foraminifers and sometimes large ostreids. At certain levels occur sandstone lithoclasts that reach 0.5m in length. Individual sandstone bodies are divided by a few meters thick bluish-grey, sandy- and silty marls. The sandstones are interpreted as tidally-constructed sand wave(s).

Summary: Deep exploration well Koraljka-1 in the central part of the Adriatic sea, revealed to us, from its deepest part, very important results from the biostratigraphical point of view.

Summary: Bathymetric zonation of large benthic foraminifers can be reconstructed after their light-catching adaptations, because of the need to provide the living conditions for their symbionts. Since different foraminiferal taxa host different symbionts with different needs for light, their bathymetric zonation is consequently also different. The adaptations for specific symbionts indicate the light-conditions in the habitat of those foraminifers, even then when no recent representatives of tose taxa are known. Herein we illustrate a paleobathymetric reconstruction after the large benthic foraminifers from the Istrian Paleogene.

Summary: "Eocene" clastics near the Podvršje locality in Ravni Kotari are reinterpreted as of the Miocene-?Pliocene age after the assemblages of the small benthic foraminifers. The studied sediments are lithologically identical to the Promina-beds, and 6 depositional sequences were recognized in their succession. One complete sequence comprises conglomerates in the lowest part, hybrid arenites in the middle- and marine marls in the upper part. Sequence boundaries areinterpreted as the incised valleys formed during the major falls in sea-level. Conglomerates were probably deposited during the lowstands and early transgressions. The marls were deposited during marine incursions and correspond to highstands of sea-level.

Summary: Carbonates were explored on the Hvar Island and Pelješac Peninsula, and clastics on the Hvar Island, Kaštela-Split basin and Donji Dolac. Deposition was influenced by sea-level changes, so numerous hiati in the Kozina-Beds were formed during sea-level falls. Megabeds of the Lower Flysch Zone represent sin-rift sediments deposited during the early extensional phase. The olistostrome K-S was formed by catastrophic collapse of the shelf margin. The post-rift sediments of the Upper Flysch Zone are dominated by conglomeratic alluvial fans and fan deltas, deposited during lowstands and subsequent sea-level rises.

Correlation of 99 wells and 1008 km of sections allowed generation of subsurface structure maps and revealed paleotopography of the Early Jurassic North Sea.
Keywords: Dunlin Group, Sequence stratigraphy, Offshore wells, Paleotopography, North Sea
Other: Studija izrađena u okviru VISTA stipendije za postdoktorsko usavršavanje. VISTA stipendiju dodjeljuje za fundamentalna istraživanja Norveška Akademija Znanosti u Oslu.

    Authors:
    Kajmić, Andrea (184414)
    Type of work: magistarski rad
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: Eight ichno-genera and 6 ichno-species were determined in the Eocene clastics of the Rab Island, where domichniae and fodinichniae prevail. Eight ichnofabrics were differentiated after the ichnofossil communities of the Lopar Peninsula, and accentuated difference in the bioturbation intensity may be related with the variations of salinity and/or paleorelief.
    Keywords: Ichnofossils, Eocene, Rab Island
Other: Autor Andrea Kajmić je bila aktivni suradnik na projektu - znanstveni novak od 1991. do siječnja 1995 g.
