Summary: The construction of the Map of Mineral Resources and
Prognostic Map of the Republic of Croatia applies for the whole territory
of the Republic of Croatia and it is meant to be the survey map of the
resource potential of the Republic (further in the text MMR). The map of
mineral resources is construing on the topographic base at 1:100.000 and
1:200.000 scale of the new land survey (on the basis of Basel elipsoid,
Gauss-Krieger projection and Greenwich meridian - Military-geographic
Institute, 1982). Both raw and elaborated mapping material are presented on
the topographic base at 1:1000.000 scale, while the version of MMR at
1:200.000 scale is chosen for the print. MMR is multilayered, with surveys
of: - energetic resources, -metallogeny, -non-metals, -mineralogenetic
regionalization. Along with the aforementioned mapping material, prognostic
maps are also under construction. MMR contains a number of basic
classifications of deposits and occurances of mineral resources: 1.
according to size - in accordance with the Regulations on data assesment,
modes of attendance and proof of reserves of the mineral ores (N.N. No
48/92); 2. according to the degree of reconnaissance, the deposits are
classified as: a) deposits explored, in preparation or under exploitation;
b) deposits and mineral or ore occurences separated on the basis of
geologic prospection or regional researches; 3. after genetic
characteristics. MMR is construed on the geologic base of the Fundamental
Geologic Map at 1:100.000 scale, which is completed for the whole
territory of the Republic of Croatia. The framework of MMR includes also
the explanation and data basis as the informatic system of mineral
resources of the Republic of Croatia which is the subsystem of the complex
geographic part of the informatic system of the Republic of Croatia. MMR is
carrying out on the basis of programs created separately for each current
year.

Research goals: Scope of investigations: Both the Map of Mineral
Resources and Prognostic map illustrate the balance of mineral and
energetic ores in the area of Republic Of Croatia in accordance with the
development and accomplishments of geologic and related natural sciences in
the general trend of scientific and technical, economic, and even cultural
development of human society. Therefore, MMR has got manifold purpose and
should be of service for: -global estimations of mineral resource
potential, -elaboration of republic, regional (district) and local
(municipal) long termed plans of development founded on the exploatation of
mineral ores and energetic resources, - necessities of international
economic and scientific cooperation, -necessities of areal planning in
building, mining, agriculture, forrestry, water resources and industry,
-necessities of classification of traditional mineral ores, new and non-
traditional, that is, perspective and potential ores, -rational mastering
over mineral resources, -planning of regional and detailed geologic
investigations, -scientific studies and works in domain of studying and
exploration of mineral resources (laws of genesis and displacement of
mineralization, application of new geodynamic theories etc.), -estimation
of perspectiveness of major or minor petrogenetic and metallogenetic, that
is, gas and oil or coal-bearing tectonic units, -improvement of mapping
methodology concerning extension of mineral ores and their prognosis,
