Summary: Small rivers with limited number of anthropogenic
activities offer a real-life model for studies of geochemical
processes.Trace metals in the Raša river are prevalently of natural
origin(Cr, Ti, Cd) or anthropogenically superimposed(Cu, Pb, Zn).Most of
the heavy metals accumulate in the upper estuary due to adsorption to clay
minerals. Only Zn concentrations in estuarine sediments indicate its higher
mobility and further transport.

Summary: Concentration of 24 elements was determined in alluvial
sediments in area threatened by construction and operation of a
pharmaceutical/chemical plant. Elevated concentrations of Cr, Cu, Pb, Ni,
and Zn, high enrichment factors and unusual disribution among mineral
fractions were found in downstream creek sediments indicating the spreading
of pollution. However due to the adsorption of trace metals, the qualitz of
water is not endangered so far.
