Summary: Construction of the Geological map of Republic of Croatia
is the continuation of systematic geological investigations in Croatia.
It is based on lithostratigraphic classification. It's aim is systematic
research of homogenous rock complexes with their complete inner contents,
as a product of specific realms and conditions or their renewal in time
and spece. Because of the diferences inside particular regions, specific
evolutions, presence of volcanogeneous and eruptive rocks, tectonic
evolution and style, destruction and resedimentation, occurence of metalic
and nemetalic row materials, energetic resoruces, etc., it can be
inferred that the Geological map expresses features of the region and have
the character of the expert map of differentiated contents. The complexity
of the map contents includes different methods and specialites during its
construction. Materialized effective connection between scientific and
educational processes integrates interests and objects of fundamental and
specific investigations. It enables maintainance and development of
peculiar professional and scientific personall which is necessary due to
the fact that the map explores the national teritory, whose specifiities
usually are not comparable with other. The aim of the project is the map
based on the previously described concepts in the scale 1:50.000. It
represents the basis for the evaluation of the geologic potentiality of
the region or whole territory. It also represents the basis for
construction of specialised geological and other maps and specific
invenstigations. Gruaduality and thooooroughness of investigation are
priorit during the map construction rather than partial investigations
which are cumulatively expensive and give no adequate results.
Realisation of entire project is based on terrain investigation, office
processing, and laboratory researches.
Research goals: The new Geological map is based on formation
analysis and is the continuation of basic geological investigations. It
includes systematic detailed regional investigations whih gives
oppoortunity to further and more complete familiarity with the entire
territory of the Republic of Croatia. The map aims toward objective and
fact-based scientific comprehension and objective valuation of space,
which makes the basis for usage and protection of all the natural
resources. The significance of mapping is very clear from the scientific,
educational and econimal aspects, taking into consideration that the
construction of geological maps is a process with all the characteristics
of basic scientific work and fundamental form of geological
investigations, which methodologicaly represents almost unique way of
universal, systematic and organised gathering of rellevant facts, their
elaboration and interpretation. The close connection between the map
construction and the aim of practial needs, should be studyed as
specifities of particular regions and opportunities they give. Geological
map is because of these reasons thematic by its contents, and it adapts to
the features of particular region and have a character of specific map of
differentiated contents. Taking into consideration investigations
programmed according to geologically homogenous or similar
characteristic, i.e. natural geological units, the borders of
investigations are not limited in advance. The basic contribution from the
syntheses and evaluation of the results realized by terrains and
laboratory researh, would be graphically presented by the geological map
based on lithostratigraphic analysis, scale 1:50.000. The geological map
based on the previously described concepts shall be the basis for the
construction of series of specialized geological and other maps, regional
planning and for the evaluation, of the complete raw material and energy
potential of the Republic of Croatia, which is so far based on nonmetals,
oil, gas and geothermic potentiality of some parts of Croatia.
