Summary: Complex hydrogeological investigations of karst area.
Explanation of hydrogeological occurences in connection with
lithostratigraphic and geotectonic relations, and practical application in
water supply, melioration works and construction of different facilities in
karst area. Delineation of drainage basins of springs Sv. Ivan, Gradole and
Bulaž in Istria. Establishing of Sanitary Protection Zones of Potable Water
Sources and Protection Measures. Analysis of regime of spring discharge and
possibility of springflow increasing. Ground water regime. Establishing of
subsurface connections between the ponor (swallow hole) and the spring.
Hydrogeological interpretation og ground water tracing.
Keywords: Karst, spring, ground water, ground water contamination, drainage basin, tracers, ground water flow, ground water regime, ground water protection
Research goals: Establishing of individual spring catchment area and
the protection from contamination. Regulation of the spring discharge
regime. Establishing of accumulation sanitary protection zones.
Investigation of the possibilities of the using ground water resources
below the level of natural outflow. Estimation of existing and possible
karst aquifer natural rehabilitation. The comunications between individual
springs and ponors (swallow holes) are affirmed. The water divides of
springs in middle Istria are definined. The protection zones of springs
Bulaž, Sv. Ivan and Gradole, and protection zones of Butoniga accumulation
are established. The hydrogeological investigations inicated a possibility
of watering of spring Gradole through ponor Čiže. From Butoniga
accumulation water was poured into ponor that increased minimal springflow
of Gradole spring. The pumping test at the Bulaž spring prooved usability
of ground water recources below the level of natural outflow. The
interpretation of data will be used as material for number of MS and PhD
theses.
