Summary: The Kvarner bay was closen as a pilot area of COST 65
project in the Republic of Croatia. That is typical karstic area, which in
a right way can represent Dinaric karst and very actual problem of the
groundwater protection in karstic area generally. Relatively high level of
knowlidge about karstic groundwater problems enable the application of new
research methods, which are pist acception the European level.
Multidisciplinal approach, exchange of technologies and research
experiances, standardization of the method approaches to these problems and
delineation of water-resources protection zones lead this project to the
top of the scientific projects in the field of the envirovemental
protection on the level of European Community.
Keywords: Hyydrogeological aspects of karstic water protection, COST project EC, Multidisciplinar approach, Exchange of research experiance, Definition of protection measures
Research goals: Definition of the karstic drainage areas and their
influence on water dinamics. The evaluation of water resources in karstic
areas, water budgets including the existance and role of natural
underground retention effects. Recommendations of the criterias for
definition of water resources protection zones in European karstic areas on
the basis of the experiances from diferent European countries,
participients in COST 65 project. The proposed programme will contribute to
a fuller understending of the influence of hydrogeological conditions on
water menagement and urban planning in karstic areas in Europe. It's
necessary to print out that the resources of portable waters in Croatian
karstic areas, and of large part of Europe, present the strategic reserves
for future development.
