Summary: The project represents a continuation of systematic
detailed investigation of green calcareous algae which are very common in
shallow-water Mesozoic carbonate formations of the Dinarides.During four
years realization are comprised to separate already known or newly
detected Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous taxons. The new taxons are
described in details and illustrated by photos with typical sections.
Stratigraphic position of new taxons was controlled by associated fossil
content and the analysis of stratigraphic span of already described
taxons from the broader Mediterranean realm is in progress. The taxon
correlation presented by different authors and their subsequent
determination seek for voluminous additions and revisions.
Research goals: The main task of the proposed project is the study
of fossil Dasycladaceae which is a specialistic investigation limited
only on the forms present in the span of the Mesozoic. Generally, the
appearance of calcareous algae is restricted to carbonate sediments in
which they represent a significant constituent of the total fossil
content. The main aim implies the investigation of the green calcareous
algae (Dasycladaceae) in terms of their stratigraphic significance, the
registration of already known forms in the span of the Mesozoic of the
Dinaride carbonate platform and the description of the new taxons.
Consequently, the basic contribution is in the innovation of exact escort
of the spans of separate forms (species and genera) with the consequence
of their stratigraphic valuation. In fact, in the systematics and
evolution and, finally, to paleontological innovations which will be
reflected in the restoration of new taxons. The realization of the project
enables the continuity in the investigation of green calcareous algae,
the existance and development of which is traditionally present in the
geology of Croatia. The results existing up to now are of high quality and
represent a significant contribution in the investigation of this fossil
group, particularly in the wider Mediterranean realm.
