Summary: The complete explorations of Quaternary deposits in the
lowland surroundings of Zagreb include drillings, corings, borehole
measurements, sampling, in-the-field core-determination and comparation
with the nearest outcrops, a number of laboratory and cabinet treatments of
samples ranging from mineralogical-petrographical ones, through the
palaeonthological to radiometric determination of geological age. All
mentioned would enable a synthesis of numerous newly acquired data with
previous conceptions aiming to determination of depositional environments
and genesis of sediments in relation to glaciations and interglaciations
and the neotectonic movements as well, ending with chronostratigraphic
subdivision of deposits. The practical value of results mentioned is mostly
reflected in hydrogeology, namely in delineation of aquifers (shape and
size) and in the neotectonics.
Keywords: Quaternary Sediments, Stratigraphy, Genezis of Sediments, Interglacial, Glacial, Neotectonics, Subsurface Mapping, Zagreb Surroundings
Research goals: The goals of project are: -delineation of spreading
of characteristic horizons with different petrographic, mineral and
granulometric composition, the fossils contained and radiometric geological
age; -determination of depositional environments and conditions of genesis
in relation to palaeoclimate and neotectonic movements; -determination of
disconformities, namely hiatuses and their causes; -definition of regional
key-beds in the western part of the Sava depression. The expected results
are: -the possible hydrogeological contribution is in determination of the
shape and spreading of aquifers; -the contributions in the field of
engineering geology are in discussion of terms of the building of special
objects, esp. NPP and the deposits of hazardeous waste, and assignation of
certain areas and in the physical planning as well.
