Summary: Project deals with the engineering-geological, physical,
mechanical and chemical characteristics of rocks in karst and flysch
terrains. The objective to be achieved by these investigations is to
develop the methodology which will in an optimal and efficient way suggest
an investigation scheme for different phases of highway design and
construction as it is a complex engineering task. Rock mechanics, which is
a specific disciplinee in the field of engineering, will be applied
together with the results of engineering-geological investigations,
because it is necessary to adopt an inteer disciplinary approach in all
phases of investigation, design and implementation. The work will be
carried out in the offices, laboratories and in the field.
Research goals: The aim, of the suggested research, is to develop
the strategies, indicating the research method depending on engineering
geological and hydrogeological characteristics of the terrain, in order to
accomplish all relevant data for designing and carryng out the work on the
slopes of cuts and fractures, tunnels and foundations of freeway, bridges
and by-passes. The suggested research contributes to the improvement of the
research of engineering geological characteristics of the rocks, needed for
the road building especially from the point of view of the integrations of
the civil engineering subject matter - the mechanics of the rocks - in
applied geology.
