Summary: The researches on the project apply to the optimization of the exploitation of a telecommunication network, and the application of new technologies and new telecomm services in the Republic of Croatia. The introduction of a whole range of new services, and especially their connection with analogous systems of developed west-European countries represents the expected contents and the contribution of these researches. Videotext, electronic mail, X.25 data transmission network, the services of higher layers of OSI reference model, managing telecommunication system - are the basis of the research in the field of telematic services. Mobile telephony, satellite communications, "paging" system, video conferences, the integration of cable television and telephony, optical transmission systems - represent the second global field of research. Traffic engineering, economic-tehnical survey of the development of telecommunications, the introduction of integrated surveillance system, the measuring and managing of telecommunication network, and the digitalization of all network levels, HPT area represent the third important field of research. In these researches the west European standards in communications (ETSI) will be used to a maximum degree, which will provide the transparency of telecommunication networks of HPT for the range of services which might be used in unite Europe after the year 1992. The contacts of HPT with international European institutions and foreign telecommunication managements will continue to be used and spread. The contents of the research itself is done in accordance with the aims of the development of the Republic of Croatia (the segment of traffic and communications).

Research goals: The basic development aims of the suggested research project apply to technical-economical surveillance of the development of telecommunications and new telecom services; the achievement of base standards for the construction of telecom network; the construction of the system for surveillance, measuring and managing of the public telecommunication network; the realization of a digital backbone network, and the digitization of lower telecom levels in the region of HPT; the realization of ISDN pilot installation in Zagreb; the application of optic technology on backbone and subscriber level; the construction of the earth satellite station; videotex and the message handling system (X.400); "paging" system; the intensification of the service level of mobile telephony and data transmission network; traffic expert sector for the surveillance of evolutionary trend of development of telecom network; managing information system. The expected contribution is in: the original application of methods from the theory of information in the development and scientific analysis of the parameters of telecom network; in the defining of development phases and optimal procedures of the development of telecommunication, new telecom services and their integration towards narrow-band and wide-band ISDN; in the defining phases of the development of telecom network. The global and strategic aim is to perform the connection of telecommunications of the Republic of Croatia with developed European countries with the proposed spectrum of new telecommunication services on one hand, and to bring closer the technological base of Croatian telecommunications to European countries on the other hand.
