Summary: The main purpose of the project is to define present
situation of Croatian broadcasting systems and to research advanced
technology in production, transmission, distribution and reception of
video, audio and data signals. Digital video signal processing and image
quality parameters were analyzed. Methods of matching networks design in
RF amplifiers have been analyzed. Introduction of optical fibre
distribution networks has been investigated, especially optical fibre
characteristics such as losses, bandwidth and maintenance. Satellite MAC
and MUSE systems for HDTV distribution were investigated. The methods of
objective evaluation of HDTV picture qulaity and their introduction in
Croatian television were researched. Techniques for digitalizaton, coding
and decoding of various types of video sources and their tranmission over
broadband integrated services digital networks based on ATM were
analyzed. Based on standard procedure, test and measurement of image
quality parameters in multimedia communication have been done.

Research goals: The main goal of the project is definition and
development of scientific research in technology of measurement methods
for radiocommunication systems optimal realisation together with advanced
technology in Croatian television. The possibilities of video, audio and
data transmission via satellite and terrestrial networks will be
esablished. The various methods of digital modulations for digital video
signal are analyzed. The optical fibre parameters such as losses,
frequency bandwidth and attenuation will be defined. Broadband cable
networks for video signal distribution will be analyzed. The influence of
bit rate reduction on picture quality in ATM network will be investigated.
Final goal is introduction of advanced technology for broadcast quality
in television production, transmission and reception.
