Summary: Central part of the project is aimed to development of a
computeraided materials selection system, CAMS. Data bases have
beenstructured and developed, data on materials acquisited anddetermined
experimentaly and analyticaly. This work is done forgroups of metallic and
nonmetallic materials for the needs ofdesign, production and maintenance of
technical products.Relations between microstructure and properties of
materials areinvestigated by means of a computerized method for
microstructurequantification. Characteristics of materials needed for
CAMSsystem are derived from the microstructure parameters ofmaterials.
Keywords: computer aided materials selection, data bases, properties of materials, metallic materials, nonmetallic materials, quantification of material's microstructure
Research goals: The main goal of the project is rational use of
materials, which should directly benefit in conservation of materials and,
indirectly, conservation of energy and ecological effects. The goal is
acquisition of knowledge that should lead to a reduction in onset of the
three main causes of failure of technical products: fracture, corrosion and
wear. The goal is also an appropriate information management which could
enable optimal use of information in design, production and maintenance of
technical products made of metallic, ceramic, polymeric and composite
materials. The goals stated above demand continuous work on acquisition and
creation of data about materials, their properties and performances. This
has been realized during the past period of work within the project.
