Summary: The application of nonperpendicular nets usual computingnumerical problems with two-dimensional domain inthree-dimensional case leads to serious difficulties whentransferring real nets into numerically perpendicular ones. Inthis paper a perpendicular net relevant to furnace volume isretained so that differential equations discretisation isstandard. As nodal points do not always fall into domain'sboundary the approximation of boundary conditions is carried outat domain's nodal points that are closest to the boundary. Thatway a three-dimensional problem does not really differ from thetwo-dimensional problem. Such an approach is applicable withother methods of discretisation and equation system computation. In this paper a numerical solution of mathematical model of acomplexly shaped furnace by numerical compression method isshown.

    Language: engleski
    Place: Vancouver, British Columb, Kanad
    Year: 1995
    Pages: from 205 to 215
Meeting: INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON NEAR-NET-SHAPE CASTING IN THE MINIMILLS
    Held: from 08/19/95 to 08/23/95
Summary: The technology of continuos castin always shows the aim to increase the castin speed, that means strand productivity, in conjction with better internal and surface quality of the cast product. The result of the development made by Danilei is a casting technology whose key points are a new concept for cooling the mould and a new mould itself. this new mould is aclled Adaptable, because it is able to "adapt" its original taper to the billet shrinkage. This effect is controlled by the pressure of the mould cooling water. This innovative design allows to increase the casting speed substantialy. Moreover, the mould is able to cast a wide range of steel grades and casting speed, without altering other process parameters.

Title: MODELING OF THE TRANSIENT THERMAL AND MECHANICAL PROCESSES IN THE ROTOR OF THERMAL TURBINE
Faculty: Fakultet strojarsva i brodogradnje Sveučilište u Zagrebu
    Author: NOVKO IGOR
    Date of defense: 01/30/95
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: This Master Thesis deals with the modulation process of thermal and mechanical transition processes in changed working systems of steam and gas turbines. The entire modulation process can be demonstrated for the steam turbine rotor. The described algorithm can be used, extended and restructured if necessary, in modulation of other elements of steam or gas turbines (turbine housings, regulation valves, blade canals etc.). The physical model has a two-dimensional organization. Two program- packets were used in the analysis based on the finite elements method, namely EMRC NISA ver. 93 and SWANSON ANSYS ver. 5.0A. The modeling included pre-processing which permit to define the geometry of the object’s domain and production of the finite elements mesh. As convenient correlation’s describing the transition of heat on certain parts of steam turbine rotor have been used for determination of thermal limit boundary conditions. Mechanical boundary conditions are based on constructional and functional characteristics of the rotor. A post-processing of compared results, depending of the variable effect of working condition of steam turbine on both thermal and mechanical rotor condition has produced outstandingly harmonious compatibility of both computer programs. In addition, and because of an easier evaluation of archived results, the MS EXCEL program has been used in post-processing. Consequently, the results of analysis of physical temperature fields, thermal flows, thermal dilatation’s, strains and stresses in the domain could be plotted in one-dimensionally form. The thesis has shown that the existing professional packets can be used successfully for the analysis of physical phenomena’s on engineering structures. The quality of the analysis depends to a large extent on our knowledge of physical processes relevant for the structures being analyzed, plus the program packets used and pre-knowledge needed for their implementation. This is then used in determination of boundary conditions. Special attention and knowledge of theoretical support of the analyzed physical fundamentals is needed for final conclusions about the state of the structure.

Summary: Water-cooled panels are usually used at the roof and the wall of high powered electric arc furnaces. Previously used panels, lined with refractory bricks, are modified today so that more than 90% of all furnaces are equipped with water-cooled panels. Various types of panels and different condition during exploation require seriously undertaken analyses of heat transfer conditions inside the furnaces as well as on the water side. The eim of this work is the sreation of necessary tools that hawe to be used in the comlete analyises of the existing and new designed water-cooled device in high power operation electric arc furnaces in sense of increasing its productivity and life duration.

Summary: The increasing of the casting speed in continuos casting technology, together with better internal and surface quolity of the products, has a priority in the new design of the castin device. The greatest resistance in heat extraction from the bille appears in air gap between solid shell of the billet and iner surface of the mould. The new designed mould allows deformation of its walls and a air gap can be kept appropriate small in different situation and location. Large series of the calculation was performed to define the optimal shape and dimension of the mould.

Summary: The most delicate part of the DC arc furnace is the pottom electrode. DC current with more than 80 kA has to be transported through melt from top to bottom electrode. At the same time the materijal of the electrode is under high thermal as well as electrical loadings. Last one generete electrodynamics forces due to which the melt on top of the electrode will be stired. There are developed several types of bottom electrode all with some advantages and disadvantages. With increasing loading air cooling become insufficient, so only different type of watercooled electrode or electrically conductive refractoriness electrode are in use. In these article some possibilities for increasing of heat conduction in billet type bottom electrode due to presevation of appropriate solid steel thickness of electrode are presented.
