Summary: The paper deals with factors influencing the cost of electricpower produced in Wind Power Systems (WPS). Data presented aretaken from world literature. Analyzing the examples of WPS thathave been used for a decade both in European and in the worldpower grid systems, the possibility of economical utilization ofwind power is shown. Comparing the prices obtained by using WPSin the world and simulating their work on the resources of theAdriatic coast, we conclude about the possibility of WPSutilization on the Adriatic coast as a support to the Croatianpower system. The paper points out to the necessity of investing the design ofthe WPS pilot plant at a favourable location of the Adriaticcoast or the islands. This should be the first step towards usingnew power resources as planned by Power Development Plan of theRepublic of Croatia up to 2010.

    Language: engleski
Summary: The paper describes the possibility of obtaining a certain amount of electric power from wind power on the Adriatic coast and the islands of Croatia. Analysis of resources and cost calculations are made to show the benefits of power generation from wind turbine generators (WTGs). The need for a systematic choice of WTGs for the particular locations of wind power stations is pointed out. In the event of power shortage due both to present power isolation of the Croatian Adriatic coast and the habitually low power inflow from the existing power stations, gradual construction of a number of WTG systems would help in periods when wind power is available. It would contribute to quicker development of tourism-oriented island economy and the production of healthy food.

Summary: Numerous publications around the world considering the economicwind energy utilization, prove that it can be achieved alreadynow. The autor of this paper set forth the presumption that areto be met in order to achieve that aim. Partly they are in thehands of country's economic system designers and partly in thearea of researching and developing teams that prepare thenecessary basis. Systematic selection of wind potential locationand WTGS is the precondition for the economic wind energyutilization. Based on published statistics of wind producedelectricity, grid connected WTGS are found to be more efficientthan stand alone WTGS. The need for the same criteria whencomparing the specific cost of energy from various sources ispointed out, as well as the enforcement of energy production thatbenefits the enviroment protection.

Summary: The solar hydrogen energy system and its components have beenanalyzed in detail. The model has been built which then has beenused to design and to analyze system for the U.S. based onutilization of renewable energy sources (solar, wind and hydro)and hydrogen and electricity as energy carriers. The analyses ofthe solar hydrogen energy system included enviromental effects, materials and energy requirements, and costs. Whenutilizationefficiency and enviromental benefits are taken intoaccount, it appears that the solar hydrogen energy systemprovides energy services at the costs lower than those provide bythe fossil fuels or by the coal based synthetic fuels. Thissystem is technically feassible and it could substitute for thefossil fuels in almost every application.

Summary: Hydrogen and electricity are considered to be the energycurrencies for the post fossil fuel era. The future energy systemfor the U.S., based on hydrogen and electricity as energycurrencies has been analyzed and compared with the present energysystem which is mainly based on fossil fuels. The parametersanalyzed include: technology, area, materials, energy and capitalcosts. The proposed solar-electricity-hydrogen energy systemcould provide essentially the same services that the fossil fuelsystem provides today but it is qualitatively different. It isbased on utilization of renewable energy sources; it is notdominated by heat-to-work conversions as it is today's energysystem, and therefore is more efficient; it does not have anyenvironmental impact. As such, it is the ultimate energy system, suitable for the 'low energy future'.

Summary: Environmental impacts occur during extraction of fossil fuels, their processing and transportation, but mostly during their enduse-combustion. It is estimated that these impacts in the UnitedStates cause direct or indirect damage adding up to $600 billionper year, which is more than the annual expenditures for energy. The solution to these environmental problems is proposed in theform of the solar hydrogen energy system. Hydrogen can be usedinstead of fossil fuels in almost every application. Its use doesnot create any environmental problems. A transition path throughcoal generated hydrogen is suggested, although full environmentalbenefits of hydrogen would be realized when the solar hydrogenenergy system is fully established.

    Held: from 12/05/94 to 12/07/94
Summary: A model of PEM fuel cell performance has been developed in order to study the fuel cell behavior in an electric vehicle, and to help in sizing and design of a vehicular fuel cell power system. The model consists of a set of equations that describe the main features of a fuel cell power system and its components, such as voltage vs. current density, active area, number of cells, operating pressure and temperature, ancillary power requirements, fuel and oxidant consumption, air flow requirements, heat rejection, water generation and requirements, weight and size. Optimization criteria have been established, that include weight, size, efficiency and simplicity of the power system. Various design options have been investigated and the optimum design configurations selected for further development.

    Held: from 06/20/94 to 06/24/94
Summary: This paper describes the design and performance of a prototype zero emission electric vehicle, powered primarily by air breathing Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cells using gaseous hydrogen as fuel. The fuel cell system is composed of the fuel cell stacks, hydrogen tank, air compressor, solenoid valves, pressure regulators, water pump, water tank, heat exchangers, sensors, programmable controller, and voltage regulator. The battery system provides power to the vehicle during periods of peak power demand such as vehicle acceleration or traveling at a high constant speed. The batteries also provide the power to initiate fuel cell startup. The vehicle has been designed, assembled, tested, and has traveled over 100 miles solely on fuel cell power with satisfactorily performance. It has successfully proved the concept of a fuel cell powered zero emission vehicle. Further enhancements will improve the performance in terms of increased speed, acceleration, fuel efficiency, range and reliability.

Summary: Transfer to the hydrogen energy system requires an optimal solution for hydrogen storage system. A system of storing gaseous hydrogen at room temperature and in a corresponding number of pressure vessels has been chosen as techno-economic suitable solution. Vessels have a cylindrical shape with torispherical heads. Expected annual amount and the value of storage system lead us to installation of modern product line capacity which would have a great impact on total manufacturing costs. Modifications in a total cost of storage system, depending on the size and number of vessels, are presented in diagrams.

Summary: The paper introduces the information technology application to ship hull performances continuos control, based on the hull as a subsystem of the ship. The hull of the ship incorporates all other subsystems of the ship and provides sufficient seaworthiness to the system - ship. Information on the hull seaworthiness now is based on periodical surveys and maintenance, and assessments from the experience and education of service officers. So, in navigation, there is no information based on the actual state of buoyancy, motions, velocities, accelerations, stresses, pressures, vibrations and deformations in real conditions. The paper deals with the ship hull performances in typical ship activities.
