Summary: The project develops a methodological procedure for establishing the sphere for an efficient application of railway and lorry transportation. The methodology starts from the assumption that the transportation process, from the procedure to the consumer, should be carried out with minimum total costs. Consequently, the project analyzes in detail the unit cost of transportation from various alternatives in the technical and technological chain. According to the comprasion of these alternatves the most efficient ratio between these two types of transportation has been defined by developing suitable mathematical models for electronis computers.

Research goals: Sudden and uncontrolled expansion of certain traffic systems influenced the social and economic aspects during the last years and thus, made this problem practicularly acute. One of the main objectives in the development of traffic, which can be considered common to all social systems is the minimization of total transportation costs in the process of social reproduction. This objective can be achieved after complex and extensive scientific investigations related to anefficient division of work among various traffic branches. A great number, practically infinite, of possibilities with their variables make it possible to find a universal solution. Each actual situation, however, require practiculer analysis. The objective of investigations within this task is to determine specific costs of the railway and lorry traffic considering the developmental factors: tehnical, technological and organizational in this country in order to draw conclusions on the efficiency of these two types of traffic. Finally, the obtained results can be applied in practice to ensure efficient traffic policy, with regard to economical aspects and legislation.
