    Čuvalo, Milan (139170)
    Journal: NAŠE MORE
    Number: 1
    ISSN: 0469-6255
    Year: 91
    Pages: from 59 to 63
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: In this paper is presented a practical method to predict slamingcharacterridtics and effects to ship's construction. Theinfluence of forebody frames shape is analysed as well as themethodology of determining the impact form factor. The predictionincludes: probability of slam impact, number of slam imapcts, thelargest impacts - pressurre most likely to occur, the extremepressure for design consideration in a sea condition. Increase ofpressure on bottom plates, as a slamming effect, may causeplastic deformations of bottom plates. Sustained ship's speed relating to allowable pressure on bottom plates and two parts ofship's speed range: range free from damage (99%) and range damagemost likely to occur, are considered. This method is favourableat an early design stage. Ii is supposed that ship's motions invertical plane at irregular wavew are known, as a necessarycondition to predict slaming characteristics.

Title: An Approach to the Choice of the Main Motor Aiming at Optimisation of merchant Cargo Ship Exploitation (original scientific paper)

    Authors:
    Lovrić, Josip (58256)
    Journal: NAŠE MORE
    Number: 5-6
    ISSN: 0469-6255
    Year: 94
    Pages: from 189 to 200
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: The paper analyses an approach to the choice of main diesel motor which is considered in three aspects: ship's commercial speed, maintenance power and reliability. In the aspects of commercial speed, the motor's "elasticity" has been proved to be cruical i.e. as bigger range as possible between macimal and minimal output, within which the motor may run continuosly. in the aspect of maintenance power, its level is proved to be decreasing with the increasing number of cylinders at which the output, i.e. size of cilinders, has practicalls no influence. Furthemore, it has been proved that main desel motor, with configuration on four and more cylinders, must be considered as partially parallel (sub)system, because without such a redundancy it would not be able to meet the needs of the desired reliability level. The level of reliability will depend on the number of cylinders i.e. the quantity and quality of redundancy.

    Language: hrvatski
Summary: The introduction of GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) will increase the safety in navigation and improve shipping in general only if the operator handle skilfully with the equipment. In the interim manual, adopted by IMO, the syllbus for the development of model training course for the General Operator's Certificate (GOC) for the GMDSS has been explained, but lacks the part concerning the ways and the methodology of training organisation. It is left to the training and various quality of both knowledge and skill of the future operator. The new approach in training organisation and the suitable of the teaching facilities neing used, will be clarified in the paper. Although the modern simulators have become the main education aid, education on real equipment is unavoidable. Regardless the training ashore, the training aboard should be introduced which hasn't been done yet.

Summary: This paper analyses the dangerous consequences of contamination of coastal waters by nonindigenous sea species spread by ship's ballast waters. It specifically points out that the measures currently recommended to avoid the danger are morely palliative and a radical solution is yet to be seen. Furthemore, the impacts fo some nonindigenous species that have alredy been spread, whether accidentally or intentionally, are being outlined as well as a possbile approach to the treatment of ship's ballast waters. Notwithstanding the actual selection of the treatment, treatment of ballast waters still on board ships seems to be imposing itself as the solitary solution with any realistic chances for global success. Finally, a pledge is being made that each coastal country conduct a research on its own species resilience to biocidal treatment and thus contribute in finding a radical solution to this global problem.

Summary: Preventive fire fighting and protection may contribute to reduce ship board fire or explosions. In order to make it more effective various fire detection systems have been used in practise. Nowadays, traditional fire detection systems have been mostly installed aboardship. This has been proved by the analysis about hazards caused by fire in the period of 1982 to 1992 (according to the International Maritime Organisation), The analysis has been methodologically what criteria influence more or less on the quality of traditional fire detection system. that is why the calculation of quality of fire detection system aboardship should be carried out, as suggested in the paper, prior to the decision about the choice of traditional fire detection system.

Summary: The analysis of the piston mechanism forces when forces when deigning diesel engines is by no means of the most importance for successful solution of a number of element. It is alos important for the appropriate engine operation and for the suitable operation of all components driven by the engine as well. The paper analyses the forces and inertial forces. When applying computors in the analysis, it is possible to take into consideration the influence of a great number of parameters and the choice of their optimal values, all of which results in a reliable design and smooth and lasting engine operation.

    Held: from 04/23/95 to 04/27/95
Summary: A seakeeping ranking procedure for the application in the proces of the type ship selection is proposed. The original NSRDC Ship Motion and sea-Load Computer Program was adapted for use on a IBM PC microcomputer, and subsequently applied to the study of ship seakeeping perfomances and the rank of eight passenger coastal ships in sea conditions typical for the Adriatic, described by Tabain's spectrum. Four seakeeping characteristics are first compared for the vessels considered, and evaluated by a rank factor for nominal and sustained speed. Finnaly, all ship are normalise by length and displacement respectively, and the influence on the rank value is assessed.

Summary: This paper analyses the dangerous consequences of contamination of coastal waters by nonindigenous sea species spreaded by ship's ballast waters. It specifically points out that the measures currently recommended to avodi the danger are merely palliative and no radical solution is yet to be seen. Furthermore, the impacts of some nondigenous species that have alredy been spreaded, whether accidentaly or intentionally, are being outlined as well as a possible approach to the treatment of ship's ballast waters.

Summary: This paper deals with theoretical and experimental application results of the diesel engine speed regulator. Scientific and applicable of "System Dynamics" are used by in the comparative analysis of the centrifugal and electronic regulators. Those principles are presented in the text book and two papers by A. Munitić (see lit. ad 1., 2., 3.), they are very applicable to methodical elaboration of non-linear system-dynamics models. Further more, software simulating regulator models: 1. CENTREG - centrifugal regulator (Woodward) 2. UNIREG - electronic regulator MACRO models are determined in Dynamo programming language. Centreg, Unireg and Macro models enable simple and implementation in computer - modelling of the automated thermal machines. The authors suggest an application of the presented models in education process (software simulators of all regular types) and in automated system design.

Summary: After a fire break-out abourd a passenger vessel, there is the biggest danger to human lives of uncontrollable smoke spreading in emergency routes. In this paper the situations of fire break-out in a passenger vessel cabin and the smoke spreading in the case of various working modes of air-conditioning system have been analysed. The way of integration of intelligent analogous addressable fire-detection system with air-conditioning system on board thus enabling necessary time of evacuation in the case of a fire break-out from any endangered part of a vessel has been described.

    Language: hrvatski
    Number of pages: 125
Summary: There is a fear of explosion or fire on board ship constantlypresent to the mind of all seafarers. Due to this fact a bigattention is paid to this problem when a ship is being built ordesigned and particularly during her navigation. Through the analysis of particular spaces on board ship and dueto the possibility or fire outbreak, the criteria dealing withthe extent of fire danger, 93 cases on different ship types aninsight into fire characteristics in the period from 1982 to 1992has been obtained. In order to detect fire automatically it is necessary to installfire detectors. Therefore various types of standard andanalogus-adressable detectors and differences in their operatinghave been pointed out. Knowing various fire detection systems, by which the place offire outbreak can be detected and its spreading prevented, theanalysis on the basis of their reliability, availability andquality has been made. If fire breaks out, it is necessary to extinguish it as soon aspossible. Therefore the possibilities of fire extinguishing havebeen described in the theses and it has also been concluded thatthe most efficient result may be achieved by water fogextingushing. Through the analysis of fire products, particularly of smokespread on board ship and on the basis of data most people in fireare hurt or die from smoke, it has been pointed out at thenecessity of fire detection systems connecting with anair-conditioning system with a view to smoke spread control inorder to ensure free evacuation of people from an endangeredspace. Additionally, a procedure of ship's crew in case of firealarm, which mainly influences the efficiency of fire prevention, has been desrcibed. On the basis of the above described, the idea of future firedetection system on board ship is introduced. The imposed requestfrom the point of view of security have been stated and also theneed to integrate a fire detection system with other securitysystems on board ship, specially with a smoke spread controlsystems and with an automatic fire extinguishing system has beenemphasized.
