Summary: This paper presents a theoretical basis for forced vibrationmodelling in pressurized hydraulic network. The main assumptionsare based on the procedure described by Streeter. The hydraulicsystem is supposed to be excited by one or several vibrationsources. The basic hydrodynamic equations are linearized in thatinterval of changes, so that the oscillatory part is expressed inthe complex domain of numbers. In this paper the procedure hasbeen generalized and a procedure for connecting various elementtypes into network has been presented. The applied procedure ofassembling a system of equations is similar to the procedurewhich is applied in standard modelling in a network hydraulicsystem. Finally some illustrative examples are presented.

Summary: The reduction of a complex channel flow to one dominant direction, i.e. to one dimensional model, is connected with a great numberof difficulties and assumptions. The flow through compound crosssection generally occurs in the main channel and in the shallowflood plains. Between those parts there is momentum transferwhich should be introduced into the equations of one dimensionalunsteady flow. The flow resistance is dealt with in a similarway. Both effects are efficiently described by distributions forthe momentum f1(h) and flow resistance f2(h). Those functionshave practical importance in the phase of selecting therepresentative cross sections which can well describe the channelproperties. The example of the unsteady flow in the Sava Riverillustrates the functions application.

    Held: from 09/05/94 to 09/09/94
Summary: In the river's vale, where urbanizationis usually develop, one of the major requirements comprehensive water resources developments is flood control. The optimal solution od flood protection must be carred out by complex analyses. Efficient analyses may be to do by corresponding mathematical model. The reduction of complex channel or river flow to one dominant direction i.e. to one dimensional model is connected with great number of difficulties and assumptions. This paper presents an one dimensional model for the unsteady flow based on fully hydrodynamics equations. Model can be use for planning and operational purposes in rivers and channels with hydrotechnic structure. The example of unsteady flow in the Sava River illustrates application of the model. The hydrodynamic eguations integrated through finite element method and system of nonlinear algebric equations solves by Newton-Raphson method.

Summary: The paper deals with the problems related to modelling hydraulic networks. Although the existing models, based on the finite element method and weak formulations of the problems, have certain advantages, they also have certain drawbacks, particularly when dealing with unsteady channel flows. Herein, attention is paid to the method of characteristics. However, since this method implies a complex approach it has not been widely applied in practice. Even when it was successfully applied, certain constraints related to the relative value of the time step compared to the space step, made it expensive. The new approach proposed in this paper is based on the finite element method. The main problem consists in determining the finite element matrix and vector according to the method of characteristics.
