Summary: The mortar and concrete specimens of equal bulk model were
tested. Under this condition, their properties depend on the composition of
cementitious powder only.
Generally, the filler in the cementitious component improves workability of
mortar and concrete, if added in the quantities as used in this research.
The effect is significant if a very fine filler is used, as is the case
when cement and limestone filler are interground.
The test results of the compressive strength were evaluated statistically.
The results suggest that a linear relationship exists between compressive
strength and volumetric concentration of filler in the cementitious
component. The relationship also depends on the parameters of the bulk
model, type of cement and the composition of aggregate.
The influence of all other components and parameters, which affect the
behavior of the specimens simultaneously, is thus excluded, i.e., the
influence of filler content on the behavior of mortar and concrete is
defined unambiguously.
Keywords: Mortar, concrete, cementitious component, filler from aggregate, bulk model, workability, compressive strength.

Summary: The theoretic and experimental method for determination of
economy of limestone filler adition to the cement has been developed.
The filler originating from intergrinding of clinker and limestone is
significantly finer than clinker powder, which is the known fact. The
original method for determination of filler grading in such a composite has
been developed.
The term "efficiency" is introduced, for definition of economy of filler
adition to the cement. The efficiency is defined as a portion of strength
on the mass unit of cement component in the composite. The filler addition
is considered reasonable from the economic point of view if the efficiency
of the composite is higher than the efficiency of the neat cement. In the
opposite, filler addition is hardly justifiable.
Statistical evaluation of test results on mortar and concrete showed that
filler originated from the aggregate may influence the efficiency either
positively or negatively, which depends on the type and quantity of cement
in the composite and on the aggregate grading. However if the composite is
produced by intergrinding of clinker and limestone, the effect is always
positive, for the filler content up to 15 %. The intimacy of mixing of
clinker and limestone particles is a decisive factor for such an effect.
Keywords: Bulk model, cementitious composite, filler, efficiency, intergrinding, intimacy of mixing.
