Title: Automatic grid azimuth by hour angle of the Sun, a star or a planet using an electronic theodolite Kern E2

    Authors:
    Solarić, Nikola (44023)
    Journal: Astrophysics and Space Science
    Number: 177
    Year: 1991
    Pages: from 175 to 179
    Number of references: 9
    Language: engleski
Summary: The paper deals with the automatic grid azimuth determination ofan object on the earth using the electronic theodolite Kern E2 byobserving the Sua, a star or a planet. The observation time andthe readings of horizontal and vertical circles of the electronictheodolite enter automatically the electronic calculator Hewlett-Packard HP41CX. The calculator computes the grid azimuth of theterrestrial object and directs the observer what to do.Therefore, even a personnel without specific high education canmake observations. For the solar observations it is not necesseryto have an astronomical almanac, because the program computes thesolar coordinates. The general input data, together with measuredones, can be stored on a magnetic casette and later on, ifnecessary, one can correct the general data and recalculate theazimuth. The method proved to be very practical in the fieldwork.

    Volume: 52
    Year: 1992
    Pages: from 80 to 85
    Number of references: 8
    Language: engleski
Summary: The paper offers an analysis of the accuracy achieved inthe automatic determination of the astronomical azimuth by the"hour-angle method" using Polaris. The observations have beenperformed using electronic theodolites Kern E2 and "on-line"programable calculators Hewlett-Packard HP41CX at a geographiclatitude of 43ř North. During a 7-night period, two personsobserved Polaris using two such theodolites. In all, 460 setswere observed, which resulted in an average internal accuracy of a single set of ń0.6" (computed from redundantmeasurements in individual sets). For a 5-set sequence, theinternal accuracy amounted in average to ń0.36" (resulting fromdifferences between individual sets belonging to the same sequence), while the external accuracy of a sequence was ń0.48"(from discrepancies between all 41 sequences measured during theconsidered 7 nights). The analysis showed further, that it wasusually not profitable to observe more than 5 sets in a sequence, 5 sets being sufficient to obtain an externalaccuracy of a sequence of approximately ń0.5", and requiringabout half an hour.

Title: Automatic time recording in determination of astronomical latitude and longitude using an astrolabe and an HP41CX

    Authors:
    Solarić, Nikola (44023)
    Journal: Astrophysics and Space Science
    Number: 177
    Year: 1991
    Pages: from 169 to 173
    Language: engleski
Summary: The paper presents the automatic time recording of transits of the image of a star across the hairs in the visual field of a telescope and the automatic reception of radio time signals for the determination of astronomical latitude and longitude of a station using an astrolabe. The automatization was achieved by an electronic calculator Hewlett Packard HP41CX and an especially constructed relay. The method proved very practical in the course of making the network of geoidal points more dense for the needs of geodesy.

Title: Accuracy of automatic grid azimuth determination by astronomical methods with the Leica-Kern E2 theodolite

    Authors:
    Solarić, Nikola (44023)
    Špoljarić, Drago (1692)
    Lukinac, Zdenko
Journal: Surveying and Land Information Systems
    Year: 1994
    Pages: from 0 to 0
    Language: engleski
Summary: The influence of station coordinate errors on the determinationof the astronomical azimuth is analyzed. In the case when thedeflection components of the vertical are known with a standarddeviation 0.5", the external accuracy of automatic grid azimuthdetermination observing Polaris with the Kern E2 and HP41CX atthe latitude fi=43N will be 0.7" or, observing the sun, in theoptimal morning and afternoon period, 1.9". In order to obtainthis accuracy, it is necessary to observe Polaris and the sun in6 sets respectively, which takes about half an hour. If thedeflection of the vertical is unknown, it is suggested that thegrid azimuth determination is performed observing one northernand one southern star near the meridian. Test measurements at thelatitude fi=43N indicate that applying this method at one stationabout one hour of observation is needed for determining the gridazimuth with an accuracy of 0.7" (external accuracy).

Summary: AUTOMATIC DETERMINATION OF THE GRID AZIMUTH BY SUN AND STAR USINGTHE ELECTRONICAL THEODOLITE LEICA KERN E2 AND LAPTOP COMPUTERTOSHIBA T1600. 1. AN ASTRONOMICAL ALMANACH FOR EITHER SUN COORDINATES OR FOR THE STARS IS NOT NECESSERY. 2. LAPTOP TOSHIBA T1600 IS ALSO USED FOR TIME MEASURING. 3. THE TARGET MARK IS POINTED TO 10 TIMES IN THE SAME TELESCOPE POSITION, AND TOSHIBA T1600 WILL REMOVE AUTOMATICALLY MEASUREMENTS WITH A LARGE ERROR. THE SAME PROCEDURE IS REPEATED IN THE OBSERVATIONS OF CELESTIAL BODY. 4. THE OBSERVATION CAN START EITHER IN THE DIRECT OR REVERSE TELESCOPE POSITION. TOSHIBA T1600 IS THEN CHECKED AS TO THE APPROPRIATE POSITION OF THE TELESCOPE. 5. AFTER OBSERVING EACH OF THE SETS, THE MEAN VALUE OF THE GRID AZIMUTH IS OBTAINED IMMEDIATELY FROM ALL THE SETS OBSERVED SO FAR, TOGETHER WITH STANDARD DEVIATION. 6. FIRST TEST MEASUREMENTS INDICATE THAT AN APPROXIMATE 20-MINUTE OBSERVATION IS REQUIRED TO OBTAIN THE MEAN GRID AZIMUTH WITH STANDARD DEVIATION SMALLER THAN 0.5".

Summary: The paper presents the second improved variant of automatic timerecording during visual observation of on stars image passingacross the hair in the visual field of the telescope and theautomation of receiving radio time signals. After the receivedradio time signals have been analysed, the erroneous timerecordings are automatically omitted, and the correction and therate of the clock are obtained. In comparison to the first variant, the input of general data has been simplified, data andtime setting remain within normal programme routines. The resultsof the clock correction and the clock rate are immediately storedin the file needed for the work at geoid points. Theseautomations have been applied to the automatic determination ofthe astronomical latitude and longitude with an astrolabe. Theautomation has been performed on a laptop computer Toshiba T1600 by means of a specially constructed relay. The eximantionof accuracy has shown that the time recording in Toshiba T1600can be determined with sufficient accuracy necessary forobservations at geoid points, the equipment is not expensive andenables the automatic recording and processing of measured data.

Summary: In our practice, today we use plans and others parts of surveyingalaborate made with clasic instruments and accessories. Wecomputed land areas on plans by mechanical equipments -planimeters, until current electronic instruments and accessorieshas been made. Also we can compute land areas using data fromland measuring. Accuracy of that computations depends of landmeasuring errors made by instruments on the field and plansmeasuring errors made by planimeters and others accessories. Inthis works I compare accuracy of the area computations based onboth methods (with the planimeter on the plans, or with theinstruments on the fild). Differences betwen computed areas aresmaller than 1% and standard deviation are relative small.

Meeting: 40. jubilarni godišnji skup KoREMA
    Held: from 04/19/95 to 04/21/95
Summary: The paper presents the automatic determination of deformation on construction objects referring to a certain line, when various loads are involved, by means of electronic theodolite Leica (Kern)E2 and on-line laptop. In order to achieve as high accuracy as possible, it is possible to perform fine pointing 2 to 10 times as selected. The reading of the horizontal and vertical angle enters automatically into the computer, and the deformation is computed with the distance measured to the target and entered before the measuring started, as related to the reference measurement. During the test loads it is possible to have graphically presented differences in deformation between various test loads phases displayed after the measurement in every phase. In case that the deformation is too large, one can immediately stop to increase the test load. During the first test observations this method has proved as very practical. The standard deviation in determing the shift at the distance of 50 m with one fine pointing on to the target has reached 0,2 mm, and with more fine pointings, one can expect if to be can below 0,1 mm.

Meeting: 39. međunarodni godišnji skup KoREMA
    Held: from 04/25/94 to 04/27/94
Summary: The paper presents the examination of the accuracy of time signals emitted by public services in Croatia in 1990, which has been carried out according to the radio signals of the station Mainflingen (accuracy 0.2 ms). The measurements performed in the period of about 4 months, with occasional interruptions, have shown that the time signals on HTV (Croatian Television) deviate sometimes even for 3.5 s, on the Croatian Radio Station Zagreb up to 0.5 s, and on the telephone of HPT Zagreb up to 0.9 s. It is then presumable that the signals of all above mentioned services in Croatia can be applied in determing the azimuth of some side according to the zenith distance of the Sun and stars. In order to prevent the occurrence of an error bigger than 1" while determing the azimuth, the time signals of the Croatian Radio Station Zagreb and the time signals of the telephone HPT Zagreb can be applied while determing the azimuth according to the hour angle of the Polaris. When determing the azimuth by means of two stars in the meridian and at geoid points, the clock correction can be determined only by receiving the time radio signals of specialized international stations for exact time.

    Held: from 02/25/93 to 02/25/93
Summary: The paper is presenting the automation of time recording during visual observations of the star image passing over the hair in the visual field of the telescope and the automation of receiving radio time signals. After the received radio time signals have been analysed, the wrong time recordings are automatically erased, with the correction and rate of the clock being also obtained. These automations have been applied in automatic determination of the astronomical azimuth using the electronic theodolite, i.e. in the determination of astronomic latitude and longitude with astrolabe. The automation has been done on the laptop computer Toshiba T1600 by means of specially constructed relay. The checking of accuracy has shown that the time recording in Toshiba T1600 can be determined using standard deviation in the time interval of up to 3 hours (being the usual duration of star observations at geoid points), with the n being the number of time recordings.
