Summary: Investigations aimed at rationalisation of the existing and
development of new methods and processes withing the technological
operations of apparel cutting and sewing have been done in the field of
clothing engineering. Outstanding technical and technological factors of
clothing enginering within the technological process of apparel cutting
have been investigated. Processing parametes dependent upon seam lenght,
sewing speed and time necessery to accomplish technological operations
of apparel sewing have been defined and investigated employing original
measuring equipment with adequate measuring transformers connected to
computers. The same equipment is used for investigating technological
operations structure. Puncturing forces in knitwear sewing have been
investigated, together with the factors having impact on seam strenght
and methods of programming interphase transport system with optimal
transport routes. Employing simultaneous recording with more video
cameras, information acquiring zones and action zones have been
investigated and digitalised, ensuring a standardization of movement
sequence by applications of predetermined times systems. This serves as
a fundamentals for computer data basis to be used, employing on adequate
element and key processing parameters coding system, as a fundamentals
to a cybernnetic approach and mathematical modeling in clothing
engineering. On the basis of the results obtained a number of software
packages has been produced, to be used in professional CAD/CAM systems
of clothing industry, as well as software packages for technological
preparation in clothing industry. The packages have been installed in 10
garment produsciong plants in Croatia. The results obtained through
investigstion seriously influenced the development of clothing
engineering in general. Measuring equipment constructed and methods used
have been tested in detail, both in laboratory and in-plant conditions,
and they are a serious basis for future scientific research programmes
in the field of clothing engineering. The results obtained could
significantly influence future copmetitiveness of Croatian garment
industry on world market, which is especially significant as this
industry branch is the biggest exporter.
Keywords: Clothing Engineering, Process parameters, Workplace engineering, Work Study,
Research goals: The aim of the investigation has been to conduct and
develop new and rationalisation of existing methods in clothing
engineering in the Department of Clothing Technology (Faculty of Textile
Technology, University of Zagreb), to serve as a basis on which clothing
engineering experts could acquire new knowledge and sustain adequate
scientific level necessary for the work in the field. The contribution
expected is a possible fast reaction to world news in the field of
clothing engineering, clothing technology and apparel industry. Developed
western countries have already started installation of the most modern
system for clothing industry, in order to cut on expensive labour. They
have also introduced: Quick Response (QR), Just In Time (JIT) and Time To
Market (TTM) strategy, to eliminate far-away-low-wage countries from
domestic market competition. Sustaining western world wide level of
scientific research in the field of clothing engineering, comparative
advantages of Croatia (its geographic nearness to western countries and
relatively high level of its export oriented apparel industry development)
can be fully exploited.
