Summary: The decomposition of serpentinite by HCl leaching. Optimal
leaching conditions. The precipitated SiO2 and SiO2 gel. The
admixtures separation from SiO2. The properties of amorphous SiO2
powder. The admixtures separation from MgCl2 solution using controlled
precipitation of low solubility hydroxides and oxyhydroxides, pH increse
is caused by the dissolution of added MgO. The separation of
FeOOH(Fe2O3) and nickel - cobalt concentrates. The production of nickel
and cobalt metal powder from the concentrate and their characterization.
Kinetics and mechanism of thermal decay of MgCl2. The properties of the
prepared MgO. Thermal decay of serpentinite contained serpentine to
yield free oxides. The leaching of the suspension of thermaly treated
serpentinite using pressurized CO2 and the separation of hydraded
magnesium carbonates from the pregnant Mg(HCO3)2 solution. The
properties of MgO prepared from this carbonates. The consolidation of
varios MgO forms. Kinetics and mechanism of MgO sintering.
Research goals: The purpuse of the proposed research is : - to
establish the optimal conditions of the serpentinite contained serpentine
decay, - the preparation of disperse and active MgO, SiO2 (amorphous),
FeOOH(Fe2O3), Ni and Co high grade purity powders, - characterization of
the prepared powders and their industrial application in new materials
formulation and - the study of MgO sintering. It was supposed that the
proposed research would offer scientific contribution to the knowledge of
the serpentine decay mechanism and the one of MgO sintering. Taking into
consideration the cognitions and the data which are expected to be find
experimentaly and by literature search, the processes enabling to extract:
360 kg MgO, 380 kg SiO2, 80 kg Fe2O3, 3-4 kg Ni i 0,15-0,20 kg Co from 1t
serpentinite will be given.
