Summary: The density dependence of sintered magnesium oxide,
obtained fromsea water by substoichiometric and
overstoichiometricprecipitation with dolomite lime and p.a. magnesium
oxide, upontwo variables has been examined, viz. the sintering
temperatureand the respective contents of SiO2 and Al2O3. The total and
theapparent porosity of the sintered samples also has been
assessed.Mathematical expressions
for these relations have been defined on hand of results fromseveral sample
lines and the most appropriate functions have beenselected.

Summary: The forsterite and spinel reactions, viz. 2MgO + SiO2 =
Mg2SiO4and MgO + Al2O3 = MgAl2O4 respectively have been examined
inisothermal sintering of magnesium oxide as obtained from seawater, and of
magnesium oxide p.a. by thermodynamic processing ofthe results based on
quantitative X - ray analysis. Specificsurface, chemical composition and
dislocation density have beendefined for the magnesium oxide samples under
examination.Sintering has been performed in the temperature from 1300 oC
to1600 oC, during 5 hours of isothermal heating.

Summary: The termodinamics of open systems may be applied to social
eventsand social development. In this paper, the termodynamic method
isapplied to the society as a system. The principle followed was:not man
against nature, trying to overpower natural laws("arrange the nature") and
thus survive, but man in harmony withnatural laws, man as a part of nature.
The other principle usedwas: "What the storm takes, the calm will not
return" (a proveab)i.e. social events should take place as near to
theequilibrium as possible approaching the reversible process asmuch as
possible. When the second law of the thermodynamics isapplied to society
i.e. social events, enthropy is interpretednot as disorder but as freedom
of individuals.

Summary: In order to study the magnesium oxide sintering
process, examinations were carried out with different quantities of
TiO2added to magnesium oxide obtained by substoichiometric
andoverstoichiometric precipitation of magnesiu hydrokside from seawater by
dolomite lime. The content of B2O3 in samples sinteredwas examined as a
function of the temperature of isothermalsintering, quantity of TiO2 added,
and method of obtainingmagnesium oxide. The results were analyzed
thermodynamically.

Summary: The effect of TiO2 addition on possibility of B2O3 removal
from the sample was examined. Two rections result in B2O3 content decrease
in the sintering process. Thermodynamic analysis, used in open systems
thermodynamics, was applied to examination results: functional dependences
of quantity of B2O3 removed (J1) and quantity of CaO which rected with TiO2
(J2) on temperature (T) and duration of isothermal sintering (t) were
analyzed, and coefficients calculated which provided and insigt into mutual
interdependence of both reactions, i.e. both simultaneous irreversible
processes, based on Onsangers phenomenological theses.

Summary: The process of isothermal sintering of magnesium oxide
obtainedfrom sea water ( by precipitation with 80 % and 120 % of
thestoichiometric quantity of the precipitation agent rerspectively)and of
magnesium oxide p.a. was examined with addition of 0.5 %TiO2, at a
temperature of 1600 oC, for differing durations ofisothermal sintering and
different pressures applied inproduction of compacts. Product density,
thickening, and porositywere examined, and the results obtained were
analyzedmathematically. The effect of TiO2 in the magnesium oxide samplehas
on the content of B2O3 was also determined. Coefficients havebeen
calculated for dependent reactions, that of formation ofCa2B2O5 and CaTiO3
respectively.

Summary: In order to reduce the B2O3 content in sintered magnesium
oxide as much as possible in precipitation with 80 % of the
stoichiometrical quantity of dolomite lime, the effect of the pH of the
agent used for rinsing of the magnesium hydroxide precipitate was examined,
as well as the effect of manitole in sea water before precipitation.
Manitole binds orthoboric acid present in sea water into a weakly
dissociated complex acid HB(OC)4. Magnesium oxide samples were sintered at
1500 oC; duration of isothermal sintering was 1 hour. The paper presents
density and porosity of individual sintered samples.
The ratio CaO/SiO2 indicates that forsterite (Mg2SiO4), monticellite
(CaMgSiO4) and mervinite (Ca3MgSi2O8) are formed during sintering of the
samples.

Summary: This paper lists the properties of products obtained by
means ofactivated sintering of magnesium oxide obtained from sea water.
The admixture used were TiO2, SiO2 and Al2O3. Mathematicalexpressions for
effects of sintering process conditions onproduct properties are presented.
The effect of TiO2 on thecontent of undesirable admixtures (B2O3) was
examined relative toproperties of the prodoct obtained by 80 % and 120
%precipitation of magnesium hydroxide from sea water and relativeto the
admixture content. The results were analyzedthermodynamically.

Summary: The effect of the pH of the solution used for rinsing the
magnesium hydroxide precipitate (precipitation of magnesium hydroxide takes
places with 80 % of the stoichiometric quantity of dolomite lime), as well
as the effect of manitole in sea water before precipitation were examined,
in order for the boron content in magnesium oxide samples sintered to
become as low as possible. The effect of manitole is better than the effect
of the pH of the rinsing solution.
The paper presents density, porosity and microstructures of individual
sintered samples. The ratio CaO/SiO2 indicates that forsterite (Mg2SiO4),
monticellite ( CaMgSiO4) and mervinite (Ca3MgSi2O8) are formed during
sintering of the samples.
