Summary: The data of the group elderly patients treated in the
intensive care unit, Department of internal medicine during 10-year period
are analyzed. The main reason for hospitalization in the elderly was
cardiovascular diseases, compared with gastroenterological diseases which
have been the main reason in younger patients. The data of the
clinico-epidemiological study in the sisx regions of Croatia were analyzed:
3 at the coast and the in the interior of the country, including 588
persons of both sexes and compared with those data of a younger persons :
aged 35.54 and 22-41 years. In the eldrly group it was found more often
myocardial fibrosis after myocardial infarction in an electrocardiogram, it
was more often seen S-T segment depression and T-wave inversion and 60
times more often atrial fibrillation than in other groups, and pacemaker
rhythm examinees. Renal diseases were studied in those persons. It was
found proteinuria in allmost in one third in the elderly group compared
with a finding in other. In the elderly arterial hypertension with heart
changes was more often found than in youngers. Those data have to be
calculated in planning of health protection of elderly patients. It was
studied renal function in elderly patients treated in the Department of
Internal Medicine, Rebro University Hospital in Zagreb, not suffered of
renal diseases, a partial renal function were studied using a creatinine
clearance analyzed by the biochemical method and compared with the four
fast mathematical models using the serum creatinine concentration. It was
found that the data given by the Cockroft and Gault's formula are worth for
this analysis, and not other formulas. Renal function in elderly
patients suffered of cardiogenic shock due to acute myocardial infarction
Was studied. In was found that parameters of renal failure could not
separate functional oliguria from acute tubular necrosis. There is no
space for other results.
Keywords: cardiovascular disease in the eldrly, heart diseases in the elderly in population study, renal diseases in a population, renal diseases in the elderly, arterial hypertension in a population study, arterial hypertension in the elderly, myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, parameters of renal failure in the elderly, fast metods for analyzing of creatinine clearance in the elderly.
Research goals: The aim of this work is divided into seven parts: 1.
the analysis of a group of patients treated in the Division of Cardiology,
Department of Internal Medicine, Rebro University Hospital, the analysis of
date given by the clinico-epidemiological study in six regions of Croatia,
the analysis of the data of the Intensive Care Unit regarding elderly
patients; 2. the analysis of the cardiovascular changes in persons without
cardiovascular diseases, according to age groups: 41-50, 51-60, 61-64,
65-74, 75-84 years, according to a clinical finding, an electrocardiogram,
an echocardiographic findings in patients from the Division of Cardiology,
Rebro; 3. the analysis of the heart's function in elderly patients
(80-100)compared with those findings in middle-aged patients (100-200),
with the special reference to the severity of arterial hypertension; 4. the
analysis of the echocardiographic finding in elderly patients in comparison
with other parameters(a question: which heart diseases are dominant in the
elderly, and which are unusual finding); 5. the analysis of results after
heart surgery in elderly patients in comparison with results in other age
groups(evaluation a therapeutic place of heart susrgery procedures in the
elderly); 6. the analysis of renal function in the elderly without renal
diseases, the frequency of renal diseases in our population and in an
intensive care unit, the analysis of a course of illnes in the elderly with
acute renal failure; 7. the analysis of rational pharmacotherapy in the
elderly according to diseases. Other information about the project.
