Title: MACRO MODEL PREDICTION OF ELDERLY PEOPLE'S INJURY AND DEATH IN ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS IN CROATIA

Authors:
Vorko-Jović, Ariana (53012)

Journal: ACCIDENT ANALYSES & PREVENTION
Number: 6
ISSN: 0001-4575
Volume: 24
Year: 92
Pages: from 667 to 672
Number of references: 8
Language: engleski
Summary: The case of elderly people injured and killed in traffic accidents in Croatia is used to illustrate a prediction method. This method consists of several steps.First, the most importantvariables are selected.Second,to overcome intercorrelation newvariables are constructed that include the old ones.Third the new variables and its first derivatives are udes in a rank correlation method. The results show good predictive capabilities.
Keywords: Model prediction, elderly people's injury and death, road traffic accidents.

Summary: Many studies about accidents of school children have shown that the most common hospitalized injuries are in sport, recreation and playing (SRP).To determine how risk situation influence that kind of injuring,a model was made for children (7-14yrs.)in the Koprivnica district,Croatia. The data of interviewed and medically treated injured children were synthesized into a linear system (6x3 matrix).Four mathematical methods were used to determinate the values of high, medium and low risk exposure."Risk quantity" was introduced as the numerical descriptor of the risk category. A total of 388 children from this area were injured during 1992. and 128 (33.0%)in SRP.The highest risk quantity (13947)is found in children living in medium risk circumstances and the risk quantity of children living in high risk situations was four times lower (3574).The children with a low risk exposure have the lowest impact on injuries (risk quantity -6988).Risk quantities were also calculated for boys and girls and for younger and older school children. The amount and sign of risk quantities influence the number of injured children.Children in the medium risk group are most vulnerable to accidents.

Title: YOUNG CHILD INJURY ANALYZIS BY THE CLASSIFICATION ENTROPY METHOD

Summary: On the project "Accident and Injury Register and Prevention Programs",data collection on all those injured who have sought medical aid, started in Koprivnica in 1992. Using the data processing method validated by relating the meaning of the observed individual phenomena to the outcome of the final event, the present paper presents some findings on the extent of the injury problem in children aged 1-4 years.Entropy of the final outcome was calculated for such different parameters as age, gender, place of injury and severity of injury.Children below the age of 2 years to exhibited lower entropy by place of injury. Their injuries, occuring at home, were mostly light. Most frequent injuries at the age of 2 years or more happened outside, they mostly affected boys and were light. The entropy classification method has shown simple and selective features for the data processing situations which involve health care events.

Title: POSSIBLE AMENDMENTS TO ICIDH:INITIAL STUDIES IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA

Authors:
Strnad, Marija (45252)
Mandić, Veljko
Rulnjević, Natalija
Journal: DISABILITY & REHABILITATION
Number: 4
Year: 1995
Number of references: 6
Language: engleski
Summary: The system of monitoring in Croatia the individuals affected by psychophysical developmental disorders by means of a register has revealed some ICD's limitations in recording the sequels of disease.Though the results of testing the ICIDH on persons with physical impairment, respectively physical disability, were positive, some amendments are nevertheless suggested. They involve providing more examples of coding practice, altering the classification for epilepsy and impairment of continence and establishing new categories and subcategories for classifications I and D common codes in the case of multiple disability categories and a new group for individual-level assesments of the type and degree of disabilty.
Keywords: Testing, physical impairment, physical disability, handicap, Register.
