Summary: Accidents are ranked 3rd of all causes of death in the total population in Croatia and ranked 1st among children and youth up to 30 years of age.Croatia is one of the leading countries in the world regarding mortality by road traffic accidents.The aim of this study is to obtain theoretic and practical knowledge about risk conditions for accidents with the purpose of taking highly effective preventive measures.For these reasons,a special "Registration for injured"has been created for the Population Register for accidents.A model for research and intervention at a local level,the Koprivnica district is taken.Thus a multidisci- plinary cooperation is stimulated and results will be evaluated.

Research goals: The aim of the research is to study the ways and possibilities of establishing the system of accidents and injuries registra- tion for the whole Croatia having the model of defined area - the district of Koprivnica.This research aims at achieving practical and theoretical knowledge for creating preventive programs in order to decrease the number of accidents. Furthermore the aims are to stimulate the multidisciplinary cooperation with the participation of the entire community in order to prevent injuring. It is expected that a higher level of knowledge among the population on the importance of risks of accidents would be achieved. The intention is to eliminate most risks in the area.
