Summary: Principles of histological classification and radiotherapy ofthe gliomas are disscussed. The importance of early diagnosis ofthis tumors is pointed out, as well as the value of goodpostoperative radiotherapy. Postoperative radiotherapy is essential in the treatment ofgliomas because surgery alone gives much lower survival rateresults.

Summary: 148 patients with malignant (106) and semimalignant (46) glioma were treated at the Clinic of Oncology, Rebro, Zagreb, Croatia, from 1969 to 1982. All the patients had some form of surgery before radiotherapy. In glioblastoma pts. significantly better 1 year survival rate is achieved if the patients are irradiated by large fields (p<0.001). The results of treatment of semimalignant gliomas are better than those of malignant gliomas (p<0.001, 5 ysurvival). In semimalignant gliomas 5 years survival rate appears to be betteer if chemotherapy is applied in addition to radiotherapy (p<0.01).

    Held: from 05/12/95 to 05/14/95
Summary: The quality of life of the patients with cerebral metastases is of growing importance in modern clinical oncology because of prolonged survival of the pts. with different malignancies. In spite of poor prognosis, an adequate multimodal approach to the treatment may produce a significant imporovenment of thesurvival as well as of the quality of life for some patients. 201 pts. with cerebral metastases with Karnofsky perfomance index >=60 are disscused in the therm of imporvement of the neurological status an the general condition after the surgery, radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy.
