Summary: The concentratons of lead, cadmium, mercury and radioactive
cesium in the tissues of: malformed fetuses, non-malformed fetuses and
neonates and children that dies of malignant diseases will be studied. The
samples will consist of 200 fetuses, neonates and children. The attempt to
prove whether the difference in the concentration of these metals exist
between the fetuses, neonates and children from rural and urban
environment will also be made. Also, the attempt to prove whether the
concentration of radioactive cesium in the sceletal and soft tissues of
the malformed fetuses and children that died of malignant disease is
different from the concentration in the same tissues in non-malformed
neonates and children that died of other causes than malignant diseases.
It will be tried to prove the amount of influence of the female genital
tract inflammations on the number of abortions and preterm deliveries (and
still very high perinatal mortality). The samples of fetal membranaces,
amniotic fluid, placentas and neonatal blood will be taken for the
microbiological analysis.
Research goals: Lead toxicity is well proven, and it is supposed
that it has carcinogen influence. Since it accumulates in bones, and in
lesser amount in other tissues, its toxic influence with every positive
consequence is supposed. Because of its transplacental transportation it
is possible to expect that it will accumulatein fetal sceletal system. The
differnce between the concentrations in fetuses from rural and urban
environment will be of interest, as well as the difference in lead
concentrations in malformed and non-malformed fetuses. The same study will
be made in live born children that died of malignant diseases. 2.The same
study will be made also for cadmium and mercury. Chemical combinations
having in mind the possible prevention of haevy metal enviroment
contamination resulting in the lesser number of malformed fetuses, and
malignant diseases in childhood period. 3. Since radioactive cesium
degradation half time is 30 years, we expect to find its elevated
concentrations not only in the tissue children as well. It will be
intersting to find out whether the radiactive cesium concentrations will
be higher in tissues of malformed neonates (and in which malformations),
inrelation to non-malformed children. 4. In the cases of pregnancies where
certain microbiological agens is found, we want to evaluate whether the
intensity of jeopardy is dependent of the causative factor itself, and
whether it was present before in thegenital tract. The aim will be to
prevent the infection and its influence to the number of preterm diseases.
