Summary: Diagnostics of pathogenic bacteria depends not only upon the laboratory procedures but to a considerable extent on the numerous external factors.In spite of their high influence on quality they ara totaly neglected in our health care system. This investigation tries to detect, name and measure the extent and the frequency of occurrence of these factors, it is also an endeavour to eliminate the obnoxious and promote the favourable influences. It holds for all pre- as well as post- analytical procedures, and the qualyty assurance in general. Some particular problems were solved by designing the new diagnostic laboratory procedures, e.g. the new V.cholerae detection method.

Research goals: The purpose of this investigation was to draw the attention of the professional bacteriologists and microbiologists to the necessity of control of their samples, reagents, procedures, equipment, staff, and the rationale for testing and interpretation of the results. Detailed analysis of the most frequent errors has been performed. Written instructions were issued on internal laboratory control. Some results included the new procedures of isolation and identification of pathogenic bacteria.
