Summary: The effectivenes of laboratory operation can and should
becontrolled not only by internal procedures, but also by
externalyorganized activities. It is suggested to intiially introduce a
socalled control procedure related to the one used for severalyears already
in our clinical biochemistry laboratories. Actuallyit is a non obligatory
participation i testing the quality ofdiagnoses and confidentiality of
results aimed atself-improvement in work organization and diagnostic
reliability.

Summary: The achievement of standard quality in laboratory
resultsrequires as in any routine operation, the control of all factorin
the making of bacteriological diagnosis. Its implementationcalls for
elaboration of an internal laboratory manual offering adetailed description
of all laboratory operations. The autorstresses the importance of some of
these and suggests that theyshould be codified, standardized and made into
norms, thus to bemade into a base for an objective control of internal or
externaltype.

Summary: Some differential growth characteristics for V.cholerae and
V.metschnikovii were examined in a liquid medium with reference topH and
ionic strength as well as tempereture and length ofincubation. The purpose
was to discover the combination of theabove conditions which would enable
selective replication ofV.cholerae accompanied by suppressed growth of
V.metschnikovii. Preliminary routine verification of one combination of
conditionswhich involves a lengthening of incubation to 22 h at heightened
temperature to 41ř C in sewage water samples pointed to thepossibility of
rapid and simple quantitative demonstration ofV.cholerae.

Summary: The paper summerizes the published reports on the
properties ofCEA antigen together with results of our experimental
laboratoryand clinical testing. Numerous methods, including
