Summary: Concentration of IgE in the umbilical cord blood has been
analzsed within an unselected group of 878 new-borns. Possible influence of
risk factors as allergz in familz, progesterone therapz and smoking during
pregnancz on eventual increasing of IgE level has been analzsed. According
the IgE level in the umbilical cord blood examiners were divided into two
groups. First group were new-borns (624) with Ige livels IgE<0,9 KJ/L.
Second group were new-borns (254) with level of IgE>0,9KJ/L which is
considered increased. Analzsis of risk factors shows that 17,5% of
new-borns were without risk factor, at 26,2% allergz in familz was found,
smoking risk existed in 27,3%, at 17,4%, mothers were on progesterone
therapz during pregnancz and two or more risk factors wxisted at 11,5%
new-borns. Distribution of risk factors at infants with increased level
(IgE>=KJ/L) does not significantlz differ from the distribution in group
with normal; level (IgE<0,9KJ/L). IgE level has been controlled at the end
of first zear at infants with increased level of IgE (IgE>0,9KJ/L(. 53% of
infants clinicallz manifested allergz (nose, throat, lungs, intestine,
skin). Statistic analzsis shows that in the group without risk factors
significantlz less infants (30,6%) manifested allergz. Within group of
infants with risk factors significant difference in percentage of allerz
manifestation was not found. Infants will be monitored until 6th year.
