Summary: The work on this edition was initated by the end of 1990. A team of distinguished experts was formed involving the members from several institutions, e.g. Department for Medical Sciences of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Medical Faculty, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Croatian Medical Association, and over the past three years they managed to gather an abundent corpus of medical terminology. An adequate computer data base was also made. From the total of 35 000 - 40 000 vocabulary entries, that are supposed to make a total corpus, as many as 30 000 terms have been systematically elaborated so far. The investigation is expected to get completed by the end of 1995. After that a definite lexicographic elaborations will follow. This extensive piece of work is to be published by ŻMiroslav Krleža® Lexicography Institute.

Research goals: The aim of the project was to make an up-to-date dictionary of medical (human and veterinary) terms and thus create an ever-increasing data base of the entire medical terminology, including both the Croatian terms and synonyms in other languages. The Dictionary is expected to involve about 35,000 - 40,000 lexical units. The project is expected to help create an ever-increasing data base for total medical terminology in the Croatian language. The Dictionary will be composed of two parts: Part I is to iclude Croatian terms with synonyms (only those terms that are denoted as recommended, will be elaborated); Part II is to include an Index of Latin terms.
