Summary: We studied morphological, cytochemical, cytoenzymatic and
immunologic characteristics, genesis and ultrastructure of atypical
mononuclear cells (AMC) and lymphocytes of peripheral blood and lymphoid
organs in patients with the syndrome of infectious mononucleosis of various
etiology. Appropriate specific tests and methods were included in the
study.
Keywords: infectious mononucleosis - syndromes, AMC, B lymphocytes, T lymphocytes, NK cells
Research goals: Studies of morphological, ultrastructural,
cytochemical, cytoenzymatic and immunologic characteristics of lymphocytes
and atypical mononuclear cells (AMC), their etiology in the blood and
lymphoid organs of patients with the syndrome of infectious mononucleosis
of various etiology. 2. Determination of specificity for each
morphological group of the AMC on the basis of the activity index of each
enzyme in the AMC. 3. Study of T and B lymphocytes reactivity and
simultaneous investigation of morphological, cytochemical and cytoenzymatic
characteristics of transformed cells in lymphocyte cultures of healthy
subjects and AMC in the peripheral blood and lymph node punctates in
patients. 4. Studies of lymphocite subpopulations and NK cells and their
role in pathogenic mechanism of infectious mononucleosis syndrome of
various etiology. Results in these studies will represent scientific
contribution to knowledge about morphological, cytochemical, cytoenzymatic
and immunologic characteristics of the AMC and about their etiology in
patients with infectious mononucleosis syndrome of various etiology. Data
on the role of humoral and cellular immunity in the pathogenesis of the
mentioned syndromes will be obtained as well.
