Summary: The importance of the cytologic finding of lymph node in
patientswith infectious mononucleosis is pointed out. It is
especiallyimportant when the disease should be differentiated frommalignant
diseases and when clinical, biochemical andhematological findings are
insuficient and the findings of seraare not significant. The cytologic
findings of reactivehyperplasia and the presence of the transformed
lymphatic cellsin a lymph node lead to the diagnosis of
infectiousmononucleosis.

Summary: In patients with verified diagnosis of infectious
mononucleosis
we found increased values of B lymphocytes which culminated inthe first
week of the disease. We found increasd T11 lymphocytesvalues and marked
rise in the values of T8 lymphocytes duringthe entire time of disease.
There was also a mild upward trend inthe values of T4 lymphocytes. We found
increased values for largegranular lymphocytes (LGL) i.e. for NK (natural
killer) cellsbetween 15th and 30th day of the disease.

Summary: On the basis of their morphologic and
cytochemicalcharacteristics, atypical mononuclear cells (AMC) in
peripheralblood of patients with infectious mononucleosis syndrome causedby
EB virus can be classified into three groups. The AMC group Iis the most
numerous one. A larger part of these cells have thecharacteristics of more
or less altered lymphoblasts, and thesmaller part, of large pyroninophilic
cells and "reactiveimmunoblasts" and are closely connected with T
lymphocytes (Leu2a+ T lymphocytes). The AMC group II has the
morphologiccharacteristics of plasmocytoid cells and are closely
connectedwith B lymphocytes. AMC group III is more or less
alteredmonocytes, and has morphologic and cytoenzymatic characteristicsof
monocytes.

Summary: The infection with Toxoplasma gondii mostly remains latent.
Alymphoglandular form is the most common type of acquiredtoxoplasmosis.
Cytologic findings were classified in threegroups: types A, B, and C. In
type A, reactive hyperplasia withgranulomatous reaction was found, in type
B, reactivehyp0erplasia, and in type C, lymphocytic hyperplasia.
Thecytodiagnostic puncture of lymphnode should be performed at thebeginning
of the diagnostic procedure and the dynamics ofserologic tests may reveal
the etiology of cytologic findingswhich is characteristically modified in
the case of benignlymphadenopathy.

Summary: Nontraumatic CSF samples, sterile for viruses bacteria,
from 308 febrile fullterm children were examined for total and differential
white blood cell counts as well as for protein and glucose concentration.
There was a statistically significant difference in the total WBC count
absolute and relative count of neutrophile and protein level between the
infants aged 0-6 weeks, and 6-24 weeks of age

Held: from 01/01/94 to 01/01/94
Summary: Authors present the cytological findings of the lymph node
in patient with AIDS, who was admitted to the Clinic because of
disseminated Kaposi's sarcoma. Cytological findings in the lymph node were
compatible with Kaposi's: among lymphocytes, elongated and round cells with
long fibrillar cytoplasmatic processes, in a dirty haemorrhagic background.

Held: from 09/12/93 to 09/16/93
Summary: Fifty fine needle aspiration biopsies (FNA) of enlarged
lymphnodes of patients with Epstein-Barr mononucleosis were performedand
cytomorphologic patterns were studied.
The most commmon cytomorphologic pattern, present in 35 FNAs was>reactive
hyperplasia with many transformed lymphoid cells, butauthors have also
noticed following patterns> unspecific reactivehyperplasia (5 patients),
reactive hyperplasia with manymacrophages (4 patients), with epithelioid
cells (3 patients) andmature - small lymphocites hyparplasia (3 patients).
In 6patients, Reed-Sternberg like cells were found.
