Summary: Morbid obesity is very significant risk factor of
health, and at the same time is esthetic defect causing psychosocial
problems. Project "Surgical treatment for morbid obesity" is related to
the application of the own modified surgical treatment in human medicine,
if the experimental work on animals will give the expected results.
Considering own experiences and satisfactory results of the existing
surgical methods for morbid obesity, we are aware of some deficiencies of
the mentioned methods and are trying to obtain certain improvements. There
are already known treatments on small intestine (jejunoileal bypass) by
which absorption surface is reduced and weight loss occurs. Then there are
treatments on stomach (Vertical Ring Gastroplasty) by which small
reservoirs are created, so that food intake is reduced and weight loss
starts. There are some known combinations and some others. Our
suggested method is combined surgical treatment that we have called
gastroplasty besides double banding with partial jejunoileal bypass. By
operation small gastric pouch is created for food intake with two outlets,
which actually enable the expansion of this stomach, and by partial
jejunoileal bypass food absorption is reduced. The aim of our method
is: 1. to reduce body weight surplus for 60-100%, 2. to obtain permanent
reduction of food intake into the created stomach reservoir and the
reduction of absorption of small intestine surface, respectively to
preserve the complete functionality of both systems, and to avoid
possible metabolic changes, 3. to enable diagnostics (X-ray,
endoscopy) of the complete stomach and small intestine, that by other
treatments is difficult, 4. to investigate lipides metabolism and the
influence of operation besides the expected decrease of
arteriosclerosis risk factors, 5. to achieve better patient's outlook,
6. to achieve patient's psychosocial reintegration.

Research goals: The aim and purpose of the application of our
method in human medicine are the following: 1. to obtain the reduction of
overweight for 60-100%, 2. by the combined treatment on stomach and small
intestine in the described form to obtain the reduction of food
intake and the decrease of intestinal absorption surface respectively
to preserve the complete function of both systems, and by this avoid
the eventual metabolic changes, 3. by the foreseen treatment to enable
diagnostics (X-ray, endoscopy) of the complete stomach and small
intestine, that by existing treatments is not possible or is
difficult, 4. to investigate lipides metabolism and the influence of
the operation upon the risk facts of arteriosclerosis, 5. to achieve
better patient's outlook, 6. to achieve patient's psychosocial
reintegration.
