Summary: In the period 1991-1993 we investigated the term of
symptoms of cervical spondylotic myelopathy after cervical spine trauma, as
well as morphological changes of medulla and spinal canal following it. For
that purpose myelopathy and CT myelography were applied in 69 patients (51
men and 18 women) aged from 34 to 55 years with the case history and
clinical features od myelopathy and radiculopathy. Neurological
examination, EMG and evoked responses confirmed the diagnosis of cervical
spondylotic myelopathy in 16 patients (23,15%). In these patients were
measured the widths of the spinal canal and medulla, and morphological
changes in spinal medulla were analyzed, too.
Keywords: whiplash injury of the cervical spine, cervical spondylosis, the cervical spine medulla, computerized tomography, computerized myelography
Research goals: With the aim of analyzing neurological complications
occuring in patients with whiplash injuries of the cervical spine, we
investigated the occurence of spondylotic myelopathy after the cervical
spine trauma, so we set the following goals: 1. To examine neurologically
and to evaluate by neurological methods 100 patients with the spine trauma
and neurological symptoms. 2. To examine by myelopathy and CT myelography
100 patients after cervical spine trauma and the occurence of symptoms. 3.
To evaluate clinical and morphological findings. 4. To analyze by CT the
spinal canal in 30 examinees (control group consists of patients who have
come for CT examination of thyroid gland and neck) aged from 30 to 55
years.
