Summary: The group of 68 patients (age 29-82) with LG-NHL stage
II-IV wereobserved in the period 1978-1992. The median observation
periodwas 40 months. Fifteen (22) had "B"-symptoms on
presentation(unexplained fever, drenching night sweats or loss of more
than10% of body weight within a period of 6 months). Patients weretreated
initially mainly with the COP protocol and lateraccording to there response
with either CHOP or monochemotherapy. The 5-year survival rates for patients
with and withoutB-symptoms were 16% and 75% respectively, p=0,01. The
resultssupport the view that B-symptoms indicate a poorer prognosis andwe
advocate a more aggresive therapeutic approach to such LG-NHLpatients.

Summary: In a group of 45 patients with chronic lymphocytic
leukemiastages Rai 0 and I (23 males and 22 females, median age 64
years)followed up for more than 12 months we compared lymphocyticdoubling
time (LTD) with the expected survival. In 20 pts LDT wasshorter than 24
months and expected survival at 10 years was 24%.In the group of 25 pts
with LDT longer than 24 months, theexpected survival at 10 years was 75%
The difference issignificant (p less than 0,05)

Summary: Flow cytometric DNA analysis was performed on paraffine
embededbiopsy specimens taken of 125 NHL patients (48 low-grade,
77interm.+high grade, 65 women,61 men, age 23-81 median 61). Lowgrade NHL
(LG-NHL) were treated initialy with COP or monokemoth.with Leukeran and
others (HG-NHL) with CHOP protokol. Thediagnosis of DNA aneuploidy was made
only in the presence ofdefinable peak or peaks other than G0/1 in
histograms. Aneuploidywas found in 34 out of 125pts (27%) There were no
significantdifferences in fraction of aneuploid tumours between
histologicaltypes, nor between prognostic groups. Median survival for
thewhole group was 44 months and for LG-NHL and for HG-NHL 58 monthsand 25
months respectivly. Generaly aneuploidy did not appear toinfluence the
survival. In HG-NHL the median survival for euploidand aneuploid tumours
was nearly equal (26 v. 22 months) Howeverin LG-NHL aneuploidy expressed
some bordeline influence onsurvival (p=0,056). Tetraploid pattern of
aneuploidy was moreoften encounted in LG-NHL (80%) than in HG-NHL(58%) but
withoutstatistical significancy. Patern of aneuploidy was not
associatedwith advantage in surviva.

Summary: DNA Flow-cytometry was done on paraffine embedded lymph
nodestaken before therapy in 125 non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL)
patients.Frequency of aneuploidy was 27% (34/125). There was nosignificant
difference between frequency of aneuploidy inlow-grade NHL, 31%(15/48) and
in intermediate+high -grade NHL(HG-NHL) 25% (19/77). In LG-NHL aneuploidy
appeared to have anadverse effect on survival (p=0,056-0,08). In HG-NHL as
well asin the whole group ploidy status did not influence the survival.
Increased proliferative activity measured by flow-cytometry(expressed as
S+G2M more than 6% of cells) had adverse effect onsurvival in the whole
group. The median survival for the highproliferative group (HP) was 27
months and for low proliferative(LP) it was 72 months (p=0,02). Inside
LG-NHL the difference insurvival between HP and LP group was highly
significant, while inHG-NHL such difference was not found. Simmilar results
regardingproliferative activity and survival were obtained
bymicrodensitometric study. Values for S+G2M measured by twomethods showed
high degree of correlation, r=0,89 p=0,01.
