Summary: Allergic diseases are a significant scientific problem at
children morbidity. By this study we wanted to establish characteristics
and incidence of allergic diseases in a coastal area of Croatia, as well as
define normal values of ventilatory parameters (FVC, FEV1, FEF25-75%) in
children from the age of 6 to the age of 18 years in the same coastal area.
In research of allergic incidence, a 2% sample of elementary schoolchildren
was taken, a total of 369 pupils between the age of 6 and 14 years (179
girls and 190 boys). On the basis of the data and statistic results
obtained, we appointed the incidence of allergic diseases, in the
population of school children in the town of Split, to be 10.02%. On that
percentage 4.06% refers to allergic bronehitis; 3.52% to allergic
phonemenon on the skin; 1.09% to allergic rinitis; 0.81% to allergic
conjuctivitis; 0.27% to allergy to remedies, and 0.27% to allergy to insect
prick. The most frequently present allergens are home dust,
Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, grass pollens, feathers, animal hair. The
multiple linear regression equations were worked out for calculation of the
referent values FVC, FEV1, FEF25-75% for the school children ranging in age
from 6 to 18 years:(girls) FVC = 0.03296 x STANDING HEIGHT + 0.09170
x AGE - 3.37147 FEV1 = 0.03142 x STANDING HEIGHT + 0.08171 x AGE -
3.16798 FEF25-75% = 0.03597 x STANDING HEIGHT + 0.09582 x AGE - 3.07766
ranging in age from 6 to 18 (boys) FVC = 0.04634 x STANDING HEIGHT +
0.07952 x AGE - 5.00129 FEV1 = 0.04117 x STANDING HEIGHT + 0.07646 x
AGE - 4.38161 FEF25-75% = 0.04154 x STANDING HEIGHT + 0.10655 x AGE -
3.95733 On the basis of the proper normal values of ventilatory parameters
we calculated the grade of lesion of pulmonic function and we obtained
1.89% schoolchildren had ventilation obstruction and of that percentage
1.62% of healthy schoolchildren being without any sign of allergic
diseases. 18.7% of schoolchildren had positive Ventolin test for
ventilatory parameters; of that percentage 3.26% of pupils had allergic
diseases; 7.31% has often had a cold, or in infant age had, once or twice,
one of the previous mentioned allergic diseases; 8.13% had no sign of any
allergic diseases.
Research goals: - Examination of the incidence of allergic diseases
in children in a coastal area of Croatia with a view to early discovery and
prevebtion of them. - Examination of the incidence and intensity of
cutaneons oversensitiveness inhaleting allergens. - Comparison of
intensity of skin reaction with a level specific IgE antibodies with
appointing the level IgE in serum due to insight into atopic predisposition
of examines, i.e. a kind of allergic reaction. - Appointing the normal
values of lungs functions (FVC, FEV1, FEF25-75%) in schoolchildren ranging
in age from 6 to 18 years at the same region, then on the basis of the
proper normal values of ventilatory parameters calculating the grade of
lesion of lungs function due to early discovery and prevention of
obstruction.
