Summary: Sera of 202 examinees were tested using standard indirect immunofluorescence technique on human granulocytes, with the aim of detecting ANCA. ANCA were found positive in 52% (24/46) patients with circulatory diseases and in 42% (17/40) patients with glomerulonephritis. On the contrary, positive ANCA were rare in patients with systemic autoimmune diseases (2/55;4%), and heterogenius pathology (9/41;14%). The results advocate the introduction of applied test in daily diagnostic routine.

Summary: Neurological disorders related to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) can considerably increase morbidity and mortality rate among patients suffering from SLE. Such disorders could be connected with the deposition of immunocomplexes as well as with the findings of antineuron- and antiphospholipides-antibodies. A group of 100 SLE-patients was investigated in order to detect the presence and type of SLE-related neurological disorders in relation to the duration, symptoms and clinical stage of disease. Difficulties in diagnostic procedure as well as the outcome of the applied therapy among patients studied, were pointed out.

Summary: A group of 328 patients suffering from various multisystemic autoimmune diseases (SLE, MCTD, PSS, PM/DM, RA, SS, vasculitis) had been searched for the presence of circulating anticoagulans, which was found to be positive in 75 patients (22%). Such a finding is most common in active disease stage, therefore being adequate indicator of disease activity. Cardiolipin-antibodies were searched for in a total of 48 patients and were found positive in 66% of SLE-patients, in all patients with primar antiphospholipid syndrome, in 66% of patients with neurological disorders as well as in 64% of sera samples of patients previously having spontaneous misscarriage.
Keywords: Antiphospholipid syndrome, multisystemic autoimmune diseases, circulating anticoagulans, cardiolipin-antibodies.

Summary: Autoimmune thyroiditis is an organ specific autoimmune disease with known tendency of overlapping within thyrogastric cluster of organ specific autoimmune diseases. We investigated thyroid autoimmunity in 30 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) compared with 30 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In 23,3% SLE patients both antithyroglobulin and antithyroidperoxidase antibodies were found in their sera with T3 concentration being significantly lower in 36,7%, T4 in 13,3% of patients. Autoimmune thyroiditis was found in 57% of autoantibody positive SLE patients. 10% RA patients had both thyroid autoantibodies, pathologic thyroid ultrasound as well as low thyroid hormone concentration with elevated TSH. Our results suggest that autoimmune thyroid involvement can be a clinical feature of multisystemic autoimmune disease, particularly SLE.

Summary: In order to estimate the frequency of neurological and clinically overt psychiatric manifestations in SLE , 88 patients were examined. In 28 patients, most frequent manifestations were peripheral neuropathy, seizures, psychosis and cerebrovascular accident. Pathologic EMG was found in 12, pathologic EEG in 7, pathologic CT scan in 8 patients. The signs of CNS lesions were found in all clinical stages of SLE, even the initial one. In the group of 28 patients beeing in the remission of the primary disease, psychologic testing revealed tendency towards depression, marked autoaggression and rigid psychic profile.

Summary: The objective of the study was the comparison of cardiac valvular involvement in patients with secundary antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) versus antiphospholipid antibody negative SLE patients, aimed at determining the influence of both on cardiac lesions. Twenty APS positive and 37 APS negative patients underwent extensive cardiac survey. Valvular lesions were found in 9 APS positive and 6 APS negative patients.

Summary: The study was aimed at analysing double positive T cell subsets of peripheral blood lymphocytes in 28 SLE patients regarding the disease activity. The results were compared to those in 20 patients with Sjogren's syndrome, 26 RA patients and 26 controls. Two-color flow cytometric analysis was used as a method of approach and multivariant discriminate analysis as a relevant statistic method. The results showed that T helper cells strongly discriminate patients with autoimmune diseases from healthy controls. In autoimmune diseases' patients remarkable disbalance between immunostimulatory and immunosuppresive mechanisms was observed.
