Summary: Tooth caries is a very complex, dinamic, physical and
chemical process which leads to the softening and destruction of hard
dental tissues. To analyse the initial occurences at the enamel surface it
is necessary to include the formation of pellicula and bacterial
colonization, mineral and chemical composition of the enamel, posteruptive
maturation, enamel fluoridation, immunological reactions and environmental
influences. The basic problem in the restorative dentistry is to ensure
optimal mechanical and biological properties of the material and such
physical-chemical relations with hard dental tissues which are resistant
to the masticatory forces and oral millieau influences and ensure the
continous adhesion without marginal leakage. To ensure good adhesion of
the composite material to the cavity walls, different materials and
techniques have been used.
Research goals: 1. To analyse the degree of mineralisation and the
composition of health and cariogenic saliva. 2. Determination of the
initial manifestation in the chemism of the caries lesion. 3. To perform
the epidemiological investigation of the prevalence of the erosions and
abrasions and analyse the morphological properties and chemical structure
of the surface and the deeper layers of the hard dental tissues affected
by erosions. 4. Epidemiological investigation of the caries in the
medical risky groups of the patients. 5. To analyse the immunological
reactions in the dental tissue affected by the caries. 6. To evaluate the
possibility of the usage of CO 2 laser on the hard dental tissues,
investigate the temperature changes at the enamel surface and in the pulpe
chamber during the CO 2 laser illumination and the clinical usage of the
CO 2 laser for the prevention and the therapy of the caries. 7. To
evaluate optimal light sources for the composite resins
photopolymerization, ensuring as shorter as possible illumination time and
improving the monomer conversion and depth of cure. 8. Compensation of the
polymerization shrinkage in composite resin fillings and chois of the
material with better physical and mechanical properties.
