Summary: To clarify the role of the extra X-chromosome on dental
crown
size, mean values and variances of permanent tooth dimensions 31
males with Klinefelter syndrome (47,XXY) and 60 control males
(46,XY) were compared. Statistical analysis showed greater
differences in crown size, especially for the first maxillary
molars, mandibular incisors and second premolars. No evidence of
a significant difference in the size of the canines was found.
Extra X chromosome in 47,XXY could be responsible for an increase
of enamel thickness and consequently for greater dimensions of
the teeth crowns.

Summary: The purpose of the study was to analyse dimensions of all
permanent teeth in forty-nine patients with Turner's syndrome
(45,X) in comparison with one hundred twenty-one healthy females
as a control group. Results show that all mesiodistal dimensions
(except upper canines) are significantly smaller (p<0.05) in the 45,X
group. These findings indicate that genes situated on X
chromosome may have a direct effect on the growth and development
of tooth crowns.

Summary: A total sample of 45 women with gonadal dysgenesis (GD) was
studied to determine the effect of the absence or deficiency of
an X chromosome on the frequency and distribution of
malocclusions. A significantly higher frequency of the crossbite
was found for all GD types, frequency of malocclusions amounted
to 93.9%, which was significantly higher than in healthy women
(p<0,01). The obtained results show that the numerical or structural
aberrations of an X-chromosome in women with GD leads to a disturbance in
the craniofacial growth resulting in a high frequency of the malocclusions
manifested mainly by the crossbite (unilateral, bilateral or total).

Summary: In order to relate various X-chromosomal abnormalities
ranging
from partial to complete monosomy to palatal features, we studied
47, female patients with different types of gonadal dysgenesis
and 151 healthy females. Palatal width was significantly reduced
in females with Turner syndrome (p<0.01), the height of palate
was not significantly different in patients with GD. The normal
palatal shape was not significantly less frequent in patients
with TS compared with helathy controls (43.03% vs. 85.43%,
p<0.01). Comlete or partial monosomy of the X-chromosome in the females
with GD is manifested in significantly reduced palatal width, while no
significant effect was observed on other palatal features.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate if the position of
the mental foramen as a stable landmark on panoramic radiographs could be
used for clinical judgment of alveolar bone resorption. The obtained
results revealed that the distance from MF (center of foramen mentale) to
LBM (lower border of the mandible) was significantly bigger in males (p
<0.01) and could be used in proportion to the upper part of the mandible
for clinical judgment of residual bone resorption.

Summary: The shape and size of the craniofacial complex in 35 adult
47,XXY - Klinefelter syndrome individuals were cephalometrically analysed
and compared with 60 control males. Twenty-four angular and 18 linear
measurements were obtained on each subject. The results showed that the
47,XXY males were different from the controls in several areas of the
craniofacial skeleton. Most of the differences were located in the cranial
base and the cranial base angle (p < 0.02). The length of the maxillarty
base was more decreased (p < 0.05) and prognatic (p <0.01). The length of
the mandible was increased and prognatic, too (p < 0.01). Very early change
in craniofacial morphology of the 47,XXY males evidently cannot be
compensated for by many environmental factors influencing the growth and
development of the head.

Title: A Study of the Occlusal Palne Orientation by Intra-oral

Summary: Reliability of the intra-oral method which orientates the
occlusal plane to terminate at the upper level of the retromolar pad was
studied. Thirty individuals all with natural teeth and 34 complete denture
wearers participated in the study. No statistically significant difference
was found between the groups. Therefore, the method can be advocated for a
wide clinical use, as it is a simple method and places the artificial
occlusal plane very close to the position of the natural plane of
occlusion.

Title: Cementum Spurs

Summary: Accumulation of the tooth cementum above the tooth cervix
and over the enamel, forming thus cementum cingulum and sometimes covering
the enamel surface in the location of the fissures, is a common feature in
some herbivores and it is called "cementum spurs". In this study, a rare
case of cementum spurs in recent man, from the South Europe - Dalmatia
(Adriatic coast of Croatia) is presented. The autors conclude that the
existance of the cementum spurs (coronal cementum) as a higher instance, is
a result of specific anatomical selfpreservation of the tooth in the
alveolar socket.

Title: Some Characteristics of Tooth Crown Convexity
- Authors:
- Keros, Jadranka (98986)
- Brkić, Hrvoje

Journal: Collegium Antropologicum
Number: 2
ISSN: 0350-6134

Number of references: 12
Language: engleski
Summary: The degree of convexity of vestibular and oral tooth planes
enables the shape equence from the tooth crown to the epithelial attachment
of the gingiva by forming the slightest possible risk region of tooth
plaque deposit. At the same time, the proper form of the crown adds to an
even distribution of load of all underlying structures, namely of
periodonts and the highly sensitive alveolar bone. The authors, however,
consider this research only as a preliminary one and they intend to go on
investigating using more advanced measuring methods and equipment.

Summary: The purpose of this investigation was to find out the
values of the bond strength achieved by using the silicoater technique on
Ag-Pd alloy with smooth surface and with mechanical retentions on the
surface. Ninenty specimens were divided into groups, subjected to water
storage and thermocycling. The values of the bond strength were
investigated in combination with this technique with Ag-Pd alloy and three
veneer materials. The silicoater technique gave the best results in
combination with Dentacolor XS veneer material and mechanical retentions on
surface of the dental alloy.
