Summary: The investigations comprehend the morphological
constitution of raw and tanned leather as well as the enzymatic properties
of leather in animals such as: (a) goats and kids proceeding from extensive
and intensive breed; (b) buffalos from the Kosovo region. The volume
proportion of connective tissue elements within the corium of raw and
tanned leather was calculated by means of stereological methods.
Physicochemical properties (such as distension and resistance to breaking,
percentage of fat, humidity, chromoxide and ashes) were investigated in
tanned leather. LDH, SDH, NADPH2 and NADH activity was investigated in raw
leather.
Keywords: Raw and tanned leather, morphohistological construction, physicochemical properties, stereological methods, domestic animals.
Research goals: Besides the origin of the raw material, in tanning
industry it is very important to know the morphological constitution of
leather for it can be influenced by a lot of factors. The aim of the
investigation was to offer some methods that might complete the actual
knowledge concerning the quality of raw and tanned leather, which was not
possible to achieve by the methods still in use in tanning industry. The
results of our investigations indicate that, owing to such methods, tanning
industry might have the following advanteges: a complete insight of the
quality of raw and tanned leather, improvement of the selection of skins
and hides in view of their processing, decrease of waste in leather
processing. Other information about the project.
