Title: Glyolytic and gluconeogenic enzyme activities in the liver
of six week alloxan diabetic rats

Summary: Alloxan (75 mg/kg i.v.) diabetes in rats is accompanied by
enormous decrease (about 80%) in hepatic pyruvate kinase. On the other
hand, striking increase was found in the activities of phosphoenolpyruvate
carboxykinase, fructose-1,6-diphosphatase and glukose-6-phosphatase.
Heaving reached the maximum, the activities of all gluconeogenic enzymes
gradually declane to the end of experiment , but their values remained
significantly higher than in healthy rats. It is concluded, therefore, that
the correlation between blood glucose level and gluconeogenic enzyme
activities is not the same as found,in acute and chronic phase of alloxan
diabetes.
