Summary: In the liver of alloxan rats treated with "Insulong" the activity of PK showed an enormous encrease over the diabetic and healthy controls. The activity of FDPase and G6Pase largely decreased during "Insulong" treatment compared to diabetic state before treatment, but there were no esential differences twords values in the liver of diabetic rats on the corresponding day. In the group of diabetic rats that received the xenogenic transplanted tissue of endocrine pancreas the activity of PK significant increased to the both diabetic controls 28 days after transplantation. We have found a significant decrease of FDPase and G6Pase to the diabetic state before transplantation.

Summary: Serum NEFA, total lipids and cholesterol were studied in three age groups of cattle fed on a concentrate diet. The highest concentaration of all serum lipids were measured in the youngest group of the investigated cattle. No significant differences were observed in the serum lipid levels between the two older groups of cattle. It is concluded that the level of serum lipids in cattle is not susceptible to the influence of dietary carbohydrates.

Summary: The development of postnatal anemia in piglets and and the preventive effect of iron dextran. Another objective of the work was to examine whether decreased erytrogenesis causes changes in glucose and lipid metabolism. The iron-deficient pigs had significantly decreased hemoglobin and increased blood glucose level.

Summary: The aim of investigation was to study glucose metabolism through glycolytic, gluconeogenic, lipogenic and penthose phosphate pathway in the liver of mice during 180 days after alloxan. We observed nearly the same activity of examined enzymes in 18 to 36 weeks old mice. But, in mice with prolonged diabetes the activity of FDPase increased till the 135 %. At the contrary, the PK and CCE activities decrease in diabetic mice about 40 %. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in the activities of G6P-DH and 6-PGDH in the liver of diabetic mice. These results are probably the reflection of hormonal status of mice which occured in our experimental conditions.

Summary: The study analyses the water content, pH values and histopathological alterations in the musceles of pigs. Serum concentrations of free T3 and T4 were also determined a day before the pigs were taken to be slaughtered. T4 were also determined. The results indicate that the development of PSE or DFD musculature do not correlate with the serum concentrations of free T3 and T4.

Title: Vascular response to choline in cats in relation to acetylcholine

    Authors:

    Journal: Veterinarski arhiv

    Volume: 63
    Year: 1993

    Language: engleski
Summary: Vascular response to choline in comparison with ACh was studied. In a dose of 10 mg choline chloride exhibits only 8 % activity at the same dose of acetylcholine chloride. The concentration of choline cloride needed to produce the same effect as acetylcholine chloride is about 140,000 times higher. The results suggest that the elevated plasma choline after the choline treatment cannot directly produce a significant vascular effect, nor can it potentiate the effect of endogenous ACh on the muscarinic receptors.

Title: Comparison of the effects of antimuscarinic drugs on spontaneus and stimulated cerebrocortical acetylcholine relese

    Language: engleski
Summary: The effect of atropine, scopalamine and QNB on the spontaneus and stimulated ACh relese were studied in anestetized cats. The diversity between antimuscarinics exists in the modification of the spontaneus and the stimulated ACh relese. The results suggest that the cholinergic activity in the cerebral cortex operates by the two different relese mechanisms depending upon the spontaneus or stimulated conditions.

Title: Cortical acetylcholine relese in kittens and adult cats and the effect of piracetam

    Authors:

    Journal: Veterinarski arhiv
    Number: 5
    ISSN: 0372-5480

    Pages: from 235 to 244
    Number of references: 38
    Language: engleski
Summary: The relese of ACh from the cerebral cortex of kittens at the age of 2.5 months and young adult cats aged 2 - 2.5 years was studied during spontaneus and stimulated cortical activity, and the effect of piracetam was tested. When the stimulated relese of ACh is expressed as the percent increase over the spontaneus transmitter relese, it is evident that the effect of stimulation was substantially greater in kittens (167 %) than in adult cats (41 %). Piracetam in a single dose of 100 mg/kg i.p. significantly increases the spontaneus ACh relese from the cerebral cortex of kittenes, but failed to affect the spontaneus or stimulated ACh relese in adult cats. In the context of the cosideration that piracetam is an effective memory-enhanching drug, the results provide an additional support for the involvement of the cholinergic system in learning and memory.

Summary: The effect of Sr on the relese of ACh from perfused cerebral cortex of a cat was studied. Sr is capable of supporting both spontaneus and evoked cortical ACh relese. The relation between the quantity of ACh relesed and the amplitude of evoked cortical responses was rather linear when the cortex was superfused with Ca or Sr Ringer-Locke solution. It is concluded that the influence of Sr ions on the ACh relese from cortical synapses is quite symilar to the transmitter release from peripheral synapses. In addition, results indicate that the cholinergic system of the cortex is operative in determining electrical cortical activity.

Summary: The capacity of glucose metabolism through glycolytic, gluconeogenic, lipogenic and pentose phosphate pathway in the liver of diabetic mice and after neonathal pancreas transplantation have been examined. The results showed that in the liver of healthy mice there was no significan difference in the activity of any examined enzyme during the period of 18 to 36 weeks. The activity of FDPase increased sa the diabetic state prolongs till the 135 % . The PK and CCe activities decreased in diabetic mice about 40 %. In the liver of "normoglycaemic" ddiabetic recipients, which recived neonathal pancreas 20 days after alloxan, the activity of FDPase was normalized during 60 days, but in the "Hyperglycaemic" recipients there was no difference to the diabetic control. The activities of PK and CCE were normalized in the group of " hyperglycaemic" recipients, while in "normoglycyemic" recipients they were much higher then in the liver of healthy mice. In the liver of diabetic, diabetic with transplantat and healthy mice there was no difference in the activities of G6P-DH and 6-PGDH. In the group of diabetic mice which ercived pancreas transplantat 60 days after alloxan there was no difference inany enzyme activity compaired to the parallel diabetic control. So, the transplantation done 20 days after alloxan shows the most satisfactory results.

Title: Comparative investigation of hematology and blood chemystry in neonatal anermia of pigs

Summary: The preventive effect of the mostly used iron dextran (Sideranem) was studied when given a day after birth. In group of pigs which did not received Sideranem the serum iron level at 17. day of life was only 29 % of iron-treated group. The concentration of hemoglobin also decreased significantly in iron-restricted group. Iron deficiency resulted in increased glucose and decreased NEFA levels in the plasma. The differences between lactate and glutatione concentrations were not significant between groups. It is concluded that the increased glucose metabolism exists in anemia of the pigs, which may represent significant metabolic adaptation of organism.
Keywords: pig, anemia, glucose metabolism, eritrocytopoesis, iron defficiency, NEFA
