Summary: Influenza in horses, swine influenza, infectious
bovinerhinotracheitis, parainfluenza 3 infection, bovine
leukosis,pseudorabies, equine infectious anemia and equinerhinopneumonitis
are diseases permanently present in animalpopulations. Some of them -
pseudorabies and parainfluenza 3infection - are present in many animal
species. It is necesarypermanently serologically investigate their
dynamics, amongstother because of possible antigenic drifts (equine
infulenzaviruses). On the basis of the serological results
correspondingpreventive measures may be proposed. The efficacy of
attenuated and inactivated vaccines against Aujeszky's disease in pigs,
infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, equine influenza and Newcastle disease
were investigated. Pure antigenic preparations were used for diagnostic
and immunopreventive purposes.
Research goals: The goal of this project at the first stage is to
determine theprevalence of antibodies to equine and swine influenza
viruses,to bovine, equine and suid herpesvirus 1, equine infectiousanemia
and bovine leukosis virus, and parainfluenza 3 virus insera of host
animal. Then, to isolate and collect the virusstrains. At the second
stage to analyse the biologicalcharacteristics of isolated strains.
Further, to produce purifiedantigens for the use in different diagnostic
tests, and to makeefficacious vaccines against mentioned diseases. The
efficacy ofproduced vaccines will be evaluated by challenge infection
ofvaccinated animals.
