Summary: Pathohistological changes in the stomach, liver, heart, testesand spleen developed during the restraint stress were studied. The animals were Wistar albino rats restrained for 24 and 48hours. Exept for the liver, all organs showed more severe lesionsafter 48 hours. In the stomach bleeding mucosal defects were theprinciple finding, in the heart a cloudy swelling and hyalinedegeneration, in the liver a fatty change, in the spleen adepletion of the follicle "mantle zone", and in the testes areduction of the germinal epithelium. The role of circulatorydisorders and the influence of free radicals in the pathogenesisof the lesions are discussed.

Summary: The aim of the study was to provoke inflammatory lesions in thecolon of NMRI mice using 2,4-dinitrofluorbenzene (DNFB) and todemonstrate the influence of different concentrations of locallyapplied DNFB, as well as the previous skin sensitization on theextent of induced lesions. The animals in the experimental groupswere treated with the rectal enema of 0.1/0.2/0.5/1.0 % DNFBsolutions and with the rectal enema of 0.2 % DNFB solution afterprevious skin sensitization respectively. The animals in thecontrol group received the rectal enema with the equivolume ofphosphate buffered saline. Edema, hemorrhage, ulcerations andlymphoid hyperplasia in the lamina propria and submucosa weremostly pronounced in the group treated with the rectal enema of0.5% DNFB solution, and the group of animals skin sensitizedprior to receiving the rectal enema of 0.2 % DNFB solution(P<0.01). Colonic specimens of animals in the control grouprevealed no changes, compared to the colon of healthy mice. Theresults suggest the importance of immunogenic characteristics ofDNFB, as well as its inflammatory and irritant properties whenapplied to mucosal surfaces.

Summary: Three groups containing 30 one-day old Hybro broiler chiks eachwere used in the experiment. Group K was control, group Breceived 0.5 ppm of T-2 toxin during the second and third week(14 days) of fattening, and group C was treated with a same doseand in the same period with diacetoxyscipenol (DAS). Five animalsfrom each group were sacrificed at the end of each week. Theduration of the experiment was six weeks. Pathohistologicalfindings revealed severe liver changes characterised by fattychanges and signs of necrosis in both treated groups of chicks, kidney tubular degeneration, duodenal villous atrophy andperivascular cerebral edema. Enzyme activities (AST, ALT, CPK,LDH, alkaline phosphatase) were inconsistently changed but thebilirubine level in the chiks treated with DAS was significantlyraised.

Summary: The protective effect of dopamina was further investigated bothin vivo and in vitro with the dopamine agents bromocriptine andamantadine in the presence of PGs-synthesis blockade withindomethacin in 6 h restraint stressed rats. The dopamine agentsinduced gastric protection regardless of pretreatment withindomethacin. The in vitro studies revealed that indomethacin, unlike unlabeled dopamine, did not inhibit the binding of3H-dopamine to both rat gastric mucosa and muscle. The results ofthis study indicate that bromocriptine and amantadine preventstress gastric lesions independent of endogenous prostaglandins.

Summary: To date there is no report on the effect of the short timepyloric ligature (e.g. 1 min) on experimental gastric lesions. Inthis way, the unpleasant limiting factors (such as forestomachlesions, excessive gastric juice accumulation, unphysiologicaldistension of stomach) known after conventional period ofligature (e.g. hours) were fully avoided. In addition to completepyloric occlusion, anaesthesia, abdominal incision andloose pyloric ligature were tested as sham procedures. Wedemonstrated that complete pyloric occlusion even for shortperiod (e.g. 15 min) inevitably produced very stronghaemorrhagic lesions ("stress ulcers") (microscopically appearingas erosions, in addition to lamina propria permeated by red bloodcells and regularly compressed empty stomach blood vessels). Moreover, some minor lesions were found already after looseligature. Since pyloric ligation firstly damages serosal stomachside and mucosal resistance was found to be extremely vulnerableto serosal injuries, it was suggested that from serosal sideproduced by touching/handling of stomach ischaemicmicrocirculatory disorders even without intraluminal processes)are responsible for described brief lesions development.

Summary: The aim of this study was to obtain inflammatory lesions in colonof NMRI mice and to demonstrate the influence of previoussensitization with 2,4-dinitrofluorbenzene (DNFB) on the extentof mononuclear cell infiltration within lamina propria andsubmucosa after the challenge enema with DNFB. The animals inexpeerimental group were sensitized prior to receiving thechallenge enema into the lumen of colon. The animals in controlgroup received only the challenge enema. During follow-up period(24-72 hours after challenge) edema, haemorrhage and ulcerationwere observed in colon of experimental group of animals and to alesser extent in control group. The significant difference inmononuclear cell infiltration of lamina propria and submucosabetween experimental and control group was found on 24 hours, and48-72 hours after DNFB edema, respectively (p<0.01). Inconclusion, our results demonstrated the efficacy of2,4-dinitrofluorbenzene in inducing the colonic lesions in miceshowing the great importance of previous sensitization accordingto the mononuclear cell infiltration of colonic lamina propriaand submucosa.

Summary: Proventriculitis with subsequent proventricular ulcers followedby gizzard erosions and melena were found with an incidence of30% as a cause of death during necropsies of different species of34 pet birds in the last 18 months. The examined birds wereextremely cachectic and exicotic. In all proventriculi a greatamount of whitish mucous masses and a rather thinproventriculus-gizzard junction wall with discrete haemorrhagesin its mucosa were found. Microscopically examined gram-stainedproventricular mucosa smears revealed rod shaped, gram-positive,2-40 micron large organisms in 80% of birds with proventricularlesions. Considering the anamnestic data, pathomorphological, histological and cytological findings including the presentknowledge of the cause of proventriculitis associated with "goinglight syndrome" in budgerigars and some other species ofpet-birds, the organisms were identified as mega-bacteria.

Summary: Effects of T-2 toxin (0.5 mg/kg food) on broiler chicks were investigated. Chicks were randomly divided and placed in four groups of 30 chicks per each group. Group A was control, in group B chicks were treated with toxin during second and third week of life, in group C broilers were treated during fourth and fifth week, and in group D animals received mycotoxin during all six weeks of fattening. All chicks were vaccinated against NewCastle disease on the day 14. Chickens were weighed every week and bllod was taken for serologic examinations and electrophoresis. Thymus, spleen, bursa of Fabricius and caecal tonsils were histologically examined. Chickens in group D had worsened weight gain compared to the controls. Degeneration and lymphoid atrophy were noted in spleen, thymus and bursa of Fabricius. T-2 toxin was not found to cause inhibition of the specific HI antibody formation. Prealbumin was elevated in the group C and alphaglobulin in the group B compared to the control animals.

Summary: The effects of various doses of histamine, L-NAME and L-arginine on healthy chicks were axamined as of histamine, nisatidine, dopamine agonist bromocriptine, dopamine antagonist domperidone, L-NAME and L-arginine on the chicky stressed by water-immersion-stress. Besides, the immunological effects (antibody level after vaccination against New Castle disease and the efficiency of fattening (food conversion, weight gain, slaughter-house weight and relative weights of stomachs) in fattened-up chicks treated once with histamine and stressed ones were examined. The results show that 10mg/kg of histamine causes gizzard erosions and increases the ALT activity. In stressed animals bromocriptine decreases and L-arginine increases gizzard erosions. Converion of food was increased in stressed animals and weight gain was decreased in both tested groups. In relation to the control animals slaughter-house weights were significantla decreased in the stressed and in histamine treated animals. Forensic evaluation showed that this disease represent concelaed and considerable chick disease.
