Summary: A sudden death of about 60 pigs at time of weaning is described. A whole series of factors are discused which may have contributed to the nutritive deficiency of vitamin E and selenium in pigs. Of course, a considerable role in the death of pigs had moudly and hydrolitico - oxidative adulterated food, but the decisive stress factor in pigs was the increased physical effort during their being cauhgt in the box and thrown in the crammed cart and transported. The pathohistologic analysis of the miocardium showed the hyaline - waxy degeneration and the infarct approaching syndrome of the heart musculature. This finding incotrovertibly shows that the cause of the sudden death of pigs was the heart failure due to dietetic myiocardiopathy.

Summary: Examining the pigs' blood serum, the increased concentration of tolta bilirubin during the first control was found in 6% of the animals, in 12% during the second control, and in 30% in the third control, the differences observed being statisticaly significant (P<0.001). The concentration of total proteins were within the phisiological limits during all three controls. The patohistological analysis of the animals' liver revealed acute changes of medium and higher intensity, but the dominant changes were those of higher intensity in the form interstitial hepatitis, disseminated miliary hepatitis, blood vessel sclerosis, bile-duct hyperplasia, and lobulus atrophy. On the basis of the result obtained, it is concluded that also chronic liver changes could produce the increased concentration of the total bilirubin in the blood serum.

Summary: The study was carried out in 50 male and female pigs whose blood was taken by the punction of the vena cava cranialic on the 30th, 135th and 217th days of the life. The AST, ALT and GGT activity was determined in the blood serum, and during slaughter the liver samples were taken for the pathohistological analysis. The pathohistological examination showed acute changes of medium and higher intensity. Chronic changes of higher intensity were dominant in the sense of interstitial hepatitis, disseminated miliary hepatitis, blood vessel sclerosis, gall duct dysplasia, and lobulus atrophy. On the basis of the result obtained, it can be concluded that the increased AST activity suggest acute liver damage, while the increased ALT activity speaks for chronic liver changes. Among the listed biochemical parameters, the hightest diagnostic signifikance proved to have GGT whose increased activity speaks for chronic liver changes brough about by the action of toxic matter in the foodstuffs.

Summary: These programs comprised aimed administration of chemopharmaceuticals in the treatment of specific diseases and were based on systemic study of bacterial sensitivity. Dinstict differences in sensitivity required specific administration program every animal brees, even for each animal category of the same breed. The disease control programs offered the measures for a short term administration of chemopharmaceuticals efficient at tehnologically critical production stages (given in feed / drinking water): for sows before and after farrowing from day 7 to 21, for piglets 7-10 days after weaning and then 7-10 days at the onset of pre-fattening and the onset of fattening peroid, and for yearlings and boars before breeding. The programs included all chemopharmaceutical agents manufactured worldwide for pig breeding industry. After 15 years of their implementation the incidence of conditional bacterial diseases in pigs has been reduced to a worldwide level, despite ever-lasting difficulties arising from big aglomerations of animals.

Summary: Liver diseases, inaccessible to routine clinical examination, are frequently encountered in intensive pig breeding. In this work it was aimed, on the basis of pathohistological analyses of the liver, to get an insight into the health status of pigs on a farm with a closed production cycle. Most cases related to interstitial hepatitis: 62% of higher and 36% of medium intensity. Hydropic and vacuolar degeneration was found in 36% of higher and 54% of weaker intensity, blood vessel sclerosis in 34% of higher and 18% of medium intensity, hyperplasia of bile ducts in 26% of higher and 42% of medium intensisy, and disseminated miliary hepatitis in 10% of higher and 44% of medium intensity. In the highest number of cases chronic changes prevailed, which speaks for liver changes brought about, as all the circumstances suggest, under the influence of mycotoxins and various chemicals employed in agriculture.

Also, they neithercaused destruction of villous epithelium nor swelling of thesmall intestinal mucosa. The use of F4+ ETEC strain M1823 wasassociated with marked lesions of jejunal / ileal villi, increased infiltration of MNL / PMNL and hyperplasia of Peyer'spatches. Nonadherent and non-toxigenic E.coli strain 1467 did notcause mucosal damage of inflammatory response in the smallintestine of inoculated pigs. The results indicated thatgenetically - engineered F4+ LT- STa- STb- E.coli strain 2407 wasable to invoke the local (mucosal) infiltration ofimmunocompetent cells without inducing histologic alterations injejunal / ileal villous epithelium and, thus, seems to be thebest candidate for development of a safe live oral vaccineagainst postweaning colibacillosis caused by F4+ ETEC strains.
